In general, the meaning of Zina of Eyes is seeing something that is prohibited by Islam, such as seeing something that can cause enmity, seeing something that can cause damage, seeing something that can arouse libido, and so on. So, the standard of Zina of Eyes is seeing something that has been prohibited by Islam.

Actually, what is the problem with Zina of Eyes is the damage caused by seeing the things that have been prohibited. For example, Muslim men are strictly prohibited from seeing women who are not their Mahram without things that can be justified by Islam, such as teaching, good social activities, etc., and if male Muslims see them, it will happen. very exhausted deed.

Quran About Zina of Eyes

Now I will explain the Quran about Zina of Eyes. But, to be honest, I don’t know for sure how many verses of the Quran explain that. But, in general, the explanation of Zina of Eyes is in the following two verses of the Quran:

قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ

Say men who believe; “Let them hold their gaze and guard their vital organs”, such is purer for them. Allah knows best what they are doing. (An-Nur: 30).

Say it to women who believe; “Let them hold their gaze, guard their vital organs, and they should not show their jewelery except for the plain. They are to cover the veil over their breasts, and they must not show their jewelry except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their sons-in-law, or their sons, or their husbands’ sons, or their relatives. , or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or Muslim women, or the slaves they have, or male servants who have no desire (towards women), or children who do not understand the genitals of women. And do not strike their feet so that it is known the jewels they are hiding. And all of you repent to Allah, O you who believe, so that you will be lucky. (An-Nur: 31).

Now I will discuss the hadith about Zina of Eyes. But, to be honest, I don’t know for sure how many hadiths describe it. But, in general, we can find an explanation of adultery in the hadith below:

From Ibn Abbas radliyallahu anhuma, “Al-Fadl bin Abbas radliyallahu anhu once followed the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Then a woman from Khats’am came. Al-Fadl then saw her, and she saw him. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam then turned al-Fadl’s face in the other direction. The woman then said, “O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, the obligation that Allah has given to His servants is Hajj. I knew that my father was very old. He is unable to travel; Can I do Hajj for him? He replied, “Yes.” It happened to the al-Wada Hajj (farewell hajj).” The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Punishment of Zina of Eyes in Quran

Now I will explain the punishment for Zina of Eyes in Quran. To be honest, if we find out about it, then we won’t find a specific explanation for it. At least that’s what I found. However, we can estimate the punishment by understanding the Quranic verses that describe Zina of Eyes.

If we understand the two verses of the Quran which describe Zina of Eyes as I have explained above, then we can conclude a number of things as follows:

One: the punishment for Zina of Eyes in the Quran is that the person who does that will get a sin. I think we all know the bad consequences we will receive if we sin. I won’t explain that here.

Two: the punishment for Zina of Eyes in the Quran is that the person who does that will be troubled. His heart and mind will not be calm. In fact, it is very possible that he will become obsessed with committing various vices after he commits Zina of Eyes. I make such a conclusion because one of the objectives of the prohibition of Zina of Eyes is so that the minds and days of Muslims are clean and calm.

Punishment of Zina of Eyes in Hadith

Now I will explain the penalty for Zina of Eyes in Hadith. The case is the same as in the previous discussion. If we find out about it, then we will not find a specific explanation about it. At least that’s what I found. However, we can estimate the punishment by understanding the hadith that describes Zina of Eyes.

If we understand the hadith that describes Zina of Eyes as I have explained above, then we can conclude a number of things as follows:

One: in general, the punishment for Zina of Eyes in the hadith is the same as the penalty for adultery eye in the Quran. That the person who does that will get sin.

Two: the punishment for Zina of Eyes in the hadith is that people who do it will feel troubled. His heart and mind will not be calm. In fact, it is very possible that he will become obsessed with committing various vices after he commits Zina of Eyes. I make such a conclusion because one of the objectives of the prohibition of Zina of Eyes is so that the minds and days of Muslims are clean and calm.

What Counts as Zina of Eyes?

hadith about zina, whats zina, in islam, is porn zina, al zina islam, what zina, zina of the mind, zinâ islam hadith, is pornography zina, what is the sin of zina, what does the quran say about eyes, zina ayat in quran, how to stop zina in islam, is zina halal, why is zina bad, islam about zina, minor zina, punishment for zina in islam, causes of zina, hi zina,
what-zina

Now I will explain one important thing about Zina of Eyes that is often asked by some Muslims. One important thing I mean is: what counts as Zina of Eyes? You have to understand that!

To be honest, if we read Islamic literacy about Zina of Eyes, then we will not find a specific explanation of what is considered eye adultery. At least that’s what I met. If we read Islamic literacy about it, then we will only find a general explanation of Zina of Eyes and some examples. That what is meant by Zina of Eyes is seeing something that is haram in Islam, such as pornography and so on.

So, the standard of something that is considered Zina of Eyes is to see things that are haram in Islam. It is general knowledge about Zina of Eyes that we must understand.

How to Repent for Zina of Eyes

Now I will explain one of the things that are often asked by Muslims about how to remove the sin of Zina of Eyes, “How to repent for Zina of Eyes?”. This question is a very logical question because eye adultery is one of the sins that is often committed by some Muslims.

Actually, there are many ways that Muslims can do to wash away sins due to Zina of Eyes. But, the most common way to repent from Zina of Eyes is to perform ablution and pray. For me personally, ablution and prayer are the two easiest ways to do it. Why is that?

Wudu is one of the important rituals in Islam. When a Muslim performs ablution, he must wash his face. The eye is one part of a person’s face. Zina of Eyes is a sin committed with the eye. For this reason, when a Muslim rubs his face when he performs ablution, it is as if he is erasing all the sins he has ever committed with the body parts in the face area. And, that is what wudu should be like.

Praying is a way for Muslims to give something to their God. That’s why, if they want to repent for Zina of Eyes, then that is one of the best ways they can do it. They must ask Allah to forgive them the sins they have committed.

  1. If i watch non mahram with hijab or without hijab while having no bad thought, it it zina of eyes?

    1. Hi Arman!

Thank you for your comment. There are a few things you should understand:

      1. Wearing the hijab is an obligation for female muslim (there are differences of opinion about the standard of hijab), while bad thoughts is forbidden for all Muslims.

      2. According to the majority of Islamic jurists, seeing non-mahrams is permissible, except for bad purposes.

      3. The Zina of eyes is seeing something that is forbidden in Islam.

So, in my opinion, basically, seeing non-mahrams with hijab or without hijab is permissible if there are no bad thoughts. For example, we are allowed to see our female teachers, female neighbors, female friends, and so on, for whatever purposes are allowed in Islam, such as talking, asking for something, giving something, and so on. But if you look at them with bad thoughts, then it’s forbidden. In other words, in my opinion, it is a type of Zina of eyes.

So, the standard for Zina of eyes is seeing something that is forbidden in Islam.

  2. is it zina of the eyes if there’s body parts in a show and you didn’t know that they would show up in the show

    1. Hi Sarah! Thank you for reading this article.

One important thing that we must always remember is that sins in Islam, including Zina, are bad acts of violating Islamic rules which are done intentionally. Intentionally is the most important standard to determine whether it is a sin or not.

If we accidentally see someone’s body or someone’s aurat, then it is not Zina of the eyes. But if we do that on purpose, then it is Zina of the eyes.

That’s what I understood after I read some Islamic literacy. If you have another opinion, please let me know!

      Greetings,

      Akhmad Syafiuddin.

  3. Hi Akhmad,
I have unintentionally watched a women almost naked, i briskly turned my gaze away but i accept i have seen enough and i am going to admit i felt arousal it’s been 3 days i cannot get that glance out of my mind every time that picture comes in my thought i feel arousal.
Please tell me how do I get rid of that thought.
    Thank you

    1. Hi Ali,

Thank you for reading this article.

There are several things you can do:

      1. Doing Wudu. In Islam, Wudu is one of the simplest ways to remove minor sins including Zina of the eyes. When you wash your face, you must recite the niyyat for Wudu well.

      2. Reading Istighfar and Salawat. In Islam, Istighfar and Salawat are some of the best Dhikr for removing sins including of the eyes.

      3. You must pray to Allah so that you can forget the incident.

  4. Assalamualaikum

    I like a girl, she’s a non-mahram, she is beautiful.
My question is that, is it permissible to look at her
While looking at her, I have no bad thoughts nor any arousal.
    So is it permissible?

    1. Waalaikumsalam…

      Hi Arman,

Thank you for reading this article.

In general, there are two differences of opinion regarding the legality of seeing a woman who is not a Mahram.

One: the majority of Islamic jurists are of the opinion that Muslim men are allowed to see Muslim women who are not Mahram.

Two: some other Islamic jurists are of the opinion that Muslim men should not see Muslim women who are not Mahram.

I personally follow the opinion of the Islamic jurists that allow Muslim men to see Muslim women who are not Mahram.

So, regarding your question, in my opinion, you can look at the girl you like.

If you have any other questions or opinions, please let me know. I am very happy to have a dialogue with you.
