Why Zakat Is Very Important to Muslims? ~ Hi all readers! In some of the previous articles, I have explained many things about zakat, such as zakat in Islam, types of people who are entitled to receive zakat, zakat for cows, best prayers for people who have paid zakat, zakat for gold and silver, zakat for treasure, zakat al-Fitr, and so on. All of these are some important things about zakat that we should know about. And, in this article, I will explain why zakat is very important to Muslims. Of course, we should know that. So, you all must read this article to the end!
But, before I explain why zakat is very important to Muslims, I want to remind all of you, that zakat is one of the pillars of Islam. The point is that paying zakat is one of the obligations that must be carried out by Muslims who are able to do that. Remember! Only Muslims who can afford to do that are required to pay zakat. So, if there is a Muslim who is unable to do that, then he is not obliged to pay Zakat!
Besides that, I also want to explain to all of you, that the obligation to pay zakat also exists in religious teachings carried by the Prophets before the Prophet Muhammad. That is, humanity before Islam came was also required to pay zakat. We can find an explanation about that in several verses of the Quran as follows;
And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakat; and they were worshippers of Us. (Al-Anbiya’ ; 73).
And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive. (Maryam ; 31).
Now, if we look at the various hadiths and verses of the Quran that explain Zakat, then we will understand several reasons why zakat is important for Muslims. Some of the most obvious reasons are as follows;
First; paying zakat is one way to safeguard property from the possible envy of the poor and the weak.
Second; paying zakat can strengthen social relations between individuals.
Third; paying zakat can help poor people and people who need material assistance.
Fourth; paying zakat can help develop the economy in society.
Fifth; paying zakat is a form of thanks to Allah because He has given a lot of wealth to those who have paid zakat. And so forth.
