Zakat for Treasure Trove~ Hi all readers! Do you have a treasure trove? Or maybe you ever dreamed of having a treasure trove? Logically, and in general, we will be very happy if we have a treasure trove. We can get rich quickly. But you must know, that Islam requires a Muslim who has a treasure trove to pay zakat. That is what I will explain in this article.
As usual, before I explain this topic further, I will quote one hadith that is specifically related to our discussion. The hadith I mean is as follows;
From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu ‘anhu, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “And in treasure trove, there is an obligation to pay zakat of 1/5.” The hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
There are some important things related to the above hadith that we must know;
First; The hadith explains that if someone finds treasure trove, then he must pay Zakat.
Second; The majority of Islamic legal experts are of the opinion that those who find treasure trove must pay zakat, whether the treasure is large or small.
Third; Ash-Shafi’I, in his new opinion, said that the treasure trove must meet the minimum requirements to pay zakat (an-Nishab). If this is not the case, then someone who has found treasure is not required to pay zakat.
All Readers! If we understand the brief explanation above, then of course we understand, that someone must pay zakat if he has treasure trove. How much should he pay? The answer is 1/5 or 20% of the treasure trove. Why 1/5 or 20%? Of course because he did not incur any costs to get the treasure trove. That is the reason!
Now, do you all understand? The problem is simple and the explanation above is very clear. So, I hope you all understand. But, if you want to ask, please ask!
I think that’s all for a brief explanation of this article. Hopefully this article is useful! Amen!
See you in the next article!
