Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain the Zakat for gold and silver. So, if someone has a certain amount of gold or silver, then he must pay Zakat. There is a lot of discussion about that in Islamic literature. As Muslims, we must know that.
As usual, before I explain Zakat for gold and silver further, I will quote one hadith that is specifically related to our discussion. The hadith I mean is as follows;
From Ali radliyallahu ‘anhu, he said, “The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “If you have two hundred Dirhams and the money has reached one year, then there is an obligation to pay zakat of five Dirhams in the money. You have no obligation until you have twenty Dinars. If the money has reached one year, then there is an obligation to pay zakat of half a Dinar in the money. If the money has increased, then only multiplies need to be multiplied. There is no obligation to pay zakat for a treasure until the treasure reaches one year.” The hadith is narrated by Abu Daud.
There are some important things about the above hadith that we need to know;
One; The hadith explains about zakat for silver, that if a person has two hundred Dirhams, then he must pay 2.5% for Zakat (five Dirhams).
Two; The hadith explains about zakat for gold, that if someone has twenty Dinars, then he must pay 2.5% for Zakat (half Dinar).
Three; The hadith explains that someone who wants to pay zakat for his wealth, then he must wait for his treasure to be one year old.
Four; If two hundred Dirhams are owned by two people, they are not required to pay zakat.
All Readers! That is a brief explanation of Zakat for gold and silver. If you want to ask, please ask!
I think that’s enough for this article. May be useful!
