Women and Istihadhah ~ Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain one important thing that relates to women who are experiencing it. Istihadhah is the blood that is not menstrual blood coming out of a woman’s vagina. In Islamic teachings, there are several related women who are experiencing istihadhah which must be known both by women themselves or by men. This is very important because it relates to chastity and household harmony, such as can a husband have sex with his wife who is experiencing this condition?
As always, before I explain more about women and Istihadhah, I will present the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad that related to our discussion.
Hadith About Women and Istihadhah
The hadith about women and Istihadhah that I mean is as follows:
From Aisah radliyallahu anha, she said, “Fatima bint Abi Hubaisy once came to the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam then she said, “O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, I have a woman who is istihadhah, so I am not holy. Can I not pray?” He replied, “No! In fact, it is sweat, not menstruation. If your period comes then don’t pray! If that (menstruation) has been completed, then wash (cleanse) the blood then prays!” Al-Bukhari has the following hadith editorial, “Then pray for each prayer.”
Among the things we need to understand about the hadith above are as follows;
One; The Women can ask about the law that relates to her to men.
Two; It’s allowed to listen to women’s voices because of their needs.
Three; Istihadhah’s blood includes things that can break ablution (wudu). Thus, a woman who is experiencing istihadhah must ablaze for every prayer she will do. That is the opinion of Ahmad and Ash-Shafi’i. As for Imam Malik, he said, “The woman is recommended to make ablution for every prayer that she will do. The Hanafiyah sect said, “This woman must have ablution (wudu) for every prayer time.”
