Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation of “why does farting break wudu?”? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That’s why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!

Specifically, there are two important points about “why does farting break wudu?” which I will explain in this article. Two important things I mean are as follows:

  1. Things That Break Wudu.
  2. Three Reasons Why Farting Break Wudu.

Things That Break Wudu

The first important thing about “why does farting break wudu?” what I will explain now is things that break wudu. I want you to understand all that first before you read more explanations in this article so that you have a good understanding of the topic of this discussion.

If we read some Islamic legal literature on wudu, we will find an explanation that there are six things that can break wudu. The six things I mean are as follows:

One: if something comes out of two holes: the front hole (penis and vagina) and the back hole (anus).

In general, what comes out of the front and back holes is urine, sperm, feces, blood. But sometimes also something else. The point is if something comes out of our front hole or our back hole, our wudu is broken.

We can find this explanation in the following Quranic verse:

O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. (Al-Maidah: 6).

Two: if consciousness is lost due to sleep, crazy, and so on.

The point is that if a Muslim’s consciousness is lost due to sleep, crazy, etc., his wudu is breaked because he is very likely to have farted.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

From Mu’awiyah radiyallahu anhu, he said, “The Messenger of Allah sallallhu alaihi wa sallam said, “The eye is the anal cord. If two eyes have slept then the string will be untied.” The hadith was narrated by Ahmad and ath-Thabrani. He (ath-Thabrani) added (the hadith editor), “Whoever has been sleeping, let him perform wudu.”

Three: if the skin of a man and a woman who is not a Mahram come into contact without a barrier.

Mahram is a term in Islamic legal literacy. Mahram means a person who can be married. So, if the skin of a Muslim man comes into contact with the skin of a Muslim woman who is not a Mahram, then their wudu is broken.

We can find this explanation in the Quran below:

Or you touch a girl. (Al-Maidah: 6).

Four: touching the human penis, vagina, or anus using the palm of the hand or the inside of the finger.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

Whoever holds his penis, let him perform wudu.

Five: touching unclean objects, such as urine, feces, and so on.

Six: vomiting and nosebleeds.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

From Aisha radiyallahu anha, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, “Whoever is exposed to vomiting, nosebleeds (blood coming from the nose), qalas (fluid that comes from the throat that fills the mouth or other things but it is not vomit) or madhiy, then he should perform wudu and then continue his prayer as long as he does not speak.” This hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah.

That’s a brief explanation of things that break wudu. As Muslims, we must understand that.
