Specifically, there are some important things about “who gave Allah 99 names?” which I will explain in this article. Some of the important things I mean are as follows:

99 Names of Allah in Islamic Literacy

The first important thing about “who gave Allah 99 names?” what I will explain now is 99 names of Allah in Islamic literacy. I want you to understand that first before you read more explanations in this article because that is the basic thing in this discussion that must be well understood.

Quran and hadith are the two primary references in Islam. Muslims make the Quran and hadith the main references for understanding Islamic law. Similarly, the names of Allah or Asma ul Husna.

We can find explanations that Allah has good names or Asma ul Husna in several verses of the Quran and hadith below:

99 Names of Allah in Quran

As for some of the verses of the Quran about the 99 names of Allah are as follows:

Say, "Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful. Whichever [name] you call - to Him belong the best names." And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer or [too] quietly but seek between that an [intermediate] way. (Al-Isra’ [17]: 110).

The Quranic verse above explains that Allah has good names (Asma ul Husna). While some verses of the Quran about some of the names of Allah or Asma ul Husna are as follows:

He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. (Al-Hasyr [59]: 22).

He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. (Al-Hasyr [59]: 23).

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (Al-Hasyr [59]: 24).

99 Names of Allah in Hadith

The hadith about the 99 names of Allah is as follows:

From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, from the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He (Prophet Muhammad) said, "Allah has ninety-nine names, whoever memorizes them will enter Paradise. And verily Allah is odd, loves the odd.”

That is a brief explanation of 99 names of Allah in Islamic literacy. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Three Reasons Why 99 Names of Allah Are Important to Us

The second important thing about "who gave Allah 99 names?" What I will explain now is three reasons why 99 names of Allah are important to us. I want you to understand that now because it is one of the important questions about the 99 names of Allah that must be well understood.

If we read some Islamic literature about the 99 names of Allah or Asma ul Husna, we will find lots of reasons why the names of Allah are important for Muslims. Some of the reasons are as follows:

  • Memorizing the names of Allah is one of the reasons for entering Paradise.

We can find this explanation in the hadith I quoted earlier

  • Chanting the names of Allah in prayer is a command to be one of the reasons for the answered prayer.

We can find this explanation in the following Quranic verse:

And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing. (Al-A’raf [7]; 180).

  • The names of Allah introduce us to Allah.

We can find this explanation in the verses of the Quran that introduce us to Allah. Some examples are as follows:

Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One [1] Allah, the Eternal Refuge [3] He neither begets nor is born [3] Nor is there to Him any equivalent [4]." (Al-Ikhlas [112]: 1-4).

That is a brief explanation of three reasons why 99 names of Allah are important to us. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Who Gave Allah 99 Names?

The third important thing about “who gave Allah 99 names?” what I will explain now is a specific explanation. So, I really hope you read the explanation below very well.

Before I give you the answer to that question, I will quote one hadith that is specifically related to this discussion. The hadith I mean is as follows:

From Abu Musa al-Ash'ari radliyallahu 'anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam said," Whoever is afflicted with distress or sadness, then let him pray with these sentences, (he said), "O My god! I am your servant, the son of your male servant, the son of your female servant, in your grasp. My crown is in your power. Your decision applies to me. Your fair decision applies to me. I ask You with all Your names that You have used to call Your Essence, or that you have sent down in Your book, or that You have taught one of Your creatures, or that You have stored in occult knowledge by Your side, so that You make the Quran as the light of my chest, the conditioning of my heart, the removal of my sorrow and sorrow."

All readers! If we understand the explanation in the previous few paragraphs and the hadith above, especially in the sentence (I ask You with all Your names that You have used to call Your Essence), we can conclude that the one who gave Allah 99 names is Allah. That's the answer.

That's a brief explanation of "who gave Allah 99 names?" and some important things about it. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!

I think that's enough for this article. May be useful. Amen.

See you again in the next article!
