What Is Mashallah?

  1. That God willed all things to have happened.
  2. That it is God who wills everything that is happening.
  3. That it is Allah who wills all things to be occur.

Is It Important to Say Mashallah?

The second important thing about “when should you say Mashallah?” what I will explain now is "is it important to say Mashallah?". I want you to understand that now because it is one of the important questions in this discussion that must be well understood.

Before I explain the answer to that question (is it important to say Mashallah?), there is one important question that we must understand the answer to first. The question I mean is "is it obligatory to say Mashallah?".

I say this question as an important question for us to understand first because the question is very closely related to the main question that we are discussing.

If we read some Islamic literature about Mashallah, we will not find an explanation that saying Mashallah is obligatory. One thing we can conclude about that is that saying Mashallah is a sunnah or recommendation.

Now, if you ask me, "is it important to say Mashallah?", the answer is "yes, saying Mashallah is important but it is a recommendation or sunnah, not an obligation." That's the answer.

When Should You Say Mashallah?

The third important thing about “when should you say Mashallah?” what I will explain now is a specific explanation. So, I really hope you guys read the explanation below well.

To be honest, if we read some Islamic literature about Mashallah (مَا شَاءَ اللهُ), we will not find a specific explanation about when you should say Mashallah (مَا شَاءَ اللهُ).

But if we understand the meaning of Mashallah in Islam, as I have explained in the previous few paragraphs, we can conclude that you are encouraged to say this sentence when:

  1. When you hear a story about something that has happened, be it something good or something bad. For example, when you hear the stories of the Prophets, when you hear the stories of those who opposed the Prophets, when you hear stories about the history of struggle in Islam, and so on.
  2. When you are looking at something surprising, be it something good or something bad. For example, when you see something good that makes you wonder, when you see something bad that makes you wonder, and so on.
  3. When you hear a story about something that is about to happen, be it something good or something bad. An example is when you hear stories about Heaven, pleasures in Heaven, Hell, torments in Hell, and so on.

Is It a Sin If You Don't Say Mashallah?

The fourth important thing about “when should you say Mashallah?” what I will explain now is "is it a sin if you don't say Mashallah?". I want you to understand that at the end of this discussion so that you have a good understanding after reading this article.
