Specifically, there are five important things about “when is ghusl compulsory for women?” which I will explain in this article. The five important things I mean are as follows:

Why Is the Explanation of Ghusl for Women Important?

The first important thing about “when is ghusl compulsory for women?” what I will explain is "why is the explanation of ghusl for women important?". I want you to understand that first before you read any further explanation in this article. Why? Because the explanation about it is an explanation of the urgency of this discussion. So, you have to understand it.

Before I explain more about “why is it important to explain ghusl to women?”, I want to explain that there are two things about it that you should understand:

  • Major hadas is one of the things that prevents Muslims from performing certain acts of worship that require them to be in a holy state.
  • There are several different ways of purifying the male and female bodies.

So, if you ask me, "Why is the explanation of ghusl for women important?", then the answer is:

  • Because there are several different reasons why women are obligated to do ghusl and why men are obligated to do ghusl.
  • Because major hadas can only be removed by ghusl, unless the Muslims do not get water for ghusl, then they are allowed to do tayammum.

That's a brief explanation of "why the explanation of ghusl for women is important?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

Why Is Ghusl Compulsory for Women?

The second important point about “when is ghusl compulsory for women?” what I will explain is “why is ghusl compulsory for women?”. I want you to understand that because that is one of the focuses of our discussion.

If we read Islamic legal literacy about ghusl compulsory for women, then we will find two main reasons why ghusl is compulsory for women:

  • Because ghusl is the most important way to get rid of big hadas. Big Hadas is a condition of the Muslim body when they have done several things, such as sex, releasing sperm, menstruating, and so on. If they do not have enough water to perform ghusl, then they have to do tayammum for every single act of worship that requires them to be in a pure state.
  • In Islamic legal literacy, as I understand it, there are six things that require women to perform ghusl. I will explain that at the end of the discussion.

That is a brief explanation of "why ghusl is compulsory for women?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

Types of Compulsory Ghusl for Women

The third important point about “when is ghusl compulsory for women?” what I will explain is "the types of compulsory ghusl for women". I want you to understand that because there are two types of ghusl in Islam.

If we read some Islamic literature on ghusl, then we will find three types of ghusl in Islam:

Regular ghusl

What is meant by ordinary regular is ghusl which if Muslims (including Muslim women) do not do it, then they are not sinful. The usual ghusl in Islam is the ghusl that is used by everyone. The goal is that their bodies are not dirty and smell bad.

In fact, Islam strongly encourages Muslims (including Muslim women) to perform regular ghusl. The goal is for them to look good. We can find this explanation in the two hadiths below:

From Jabir, he said, "The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Verily Allah Taala is a God who is beautiful and loves beauty. He likes noble ethics and hates bad ethics."

From Abu Said, he said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Verily Allah is a God who is beautiful and loves beauty. He is pleased to see the effect of His grace which He has given to His servant. He hates bad circumstances and pretends to be bad."

Ghusl after death

What is meant by ghusl after death is ghusl that must be done by Muslims (including Muslim women) who are still alive for Muslims (including Muslim women) who have died. So, if there are Muslims who die, then they are entitled to get ghusl from the Muslims who are still alive. In other words, the surviving Muslims must give them good ghusl.

In several previous articles I have explained a lot about it. I will also explain a little about it at the end of the discussion.

Ghusl Janabah

What is meant by ghusl Janabah is ghusl which is done to eliminate major hadas. Muslims (including Muslim women) should do that if they have a big hadas. In several previous articles I have explained a lot about it. I will also explain a little about it at the end of the discussion.

So, after I explain the three types of ghusl in Islam, specifically, I will explain that the types of ghusl that are compulsory for women are ghusl after death and ghusl Janabah. Ghusl after death becomes compulsory for them in the sense that they are entitled to it and Muslim women who are still alive have to do it for them. Ghusl Janabah becomes compulsory for them in the sense that they have to get rid of the big hadas that are in their bodies.

That is a brief explanation of "the types of compulsory ghusl for women". As Muslims, we must understand that.

Quran and Hadith About Ghusl for Women

The fourth important point about “when is ghusl compulsory for women?” what I will explain is "Quran and hadith about ghusl for women". I want you to understand that so you can understand the argument of our discussion.

Actually, there are many verses of the Quran and hadith about ghusl for women. Of course, I'm not going to explain all of that here. Now I will only explain a few verses of the Quran and hadiths only.

The explanation of the Quran and the hadith about ghusl is as follows:

Quran About Ghusl for Women

As for some of the verses of the Quran about ghusl for women are as follows:

They ask you about menstruation. Say, "Menstruation is something dirty." That is why you should stay away from women when they are menstruating. And do not approach them until they are pure. If they are pure, then come to them where Allah has commanded you. Verily, Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves." (Al-Baqarah: 222).

Do not touch it except those who are purified. (Al-Waqi'ah: 79).

Hadith About Ghusl for Women

As for some hadiths about ghusl for women are as follows:

From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has said, "Verily under every hair there is Janabah. Wash your hair and clean your skin!" The hadith was narrated by Abu Daud and at-Tirmidhi.

From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri radliyallaahu anhu, he said, "Allah's Messenger sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said, "Water from water." The hadith is narrated by Muslim.

From Aishah radliyallahu anha, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam once said to her, "If you died before me, then I would definitely bathe you." The hadith was narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Majah.

That's a brief explanation of the Quran and hadith about ghusl for women. As Muslims, we must understand that.

When Is Ghusl Compulsory for Women?

The fifth important point about “when is ghusl compulsory for women?” what I will explain are 6 causes of compulsory ghusl for women. I want you to understand them all because they are very important.

The explanation of the 6 causes of compulsory ghusl for women are as follows:

Ghusl After Sex for Women

The first cause of compulsory ghusl for women is sex. So, if they have had sex, then they have to do ghusl. We can find an explanation of that in the hadith below:

From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, "If someone has sat between her four branches, then he burdens her, then he must take a shower. " This hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Muslim add the hadith editorial, "Even though he doesn't come out his sperm."

Ghusl After Menstruation for Women

The second cause of compulsory ghusl for women is menstruation. So, after menstruation, then they have to do ghusl. We can find an explanation of that in the hadith below:

Allah's Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "If menstruation has come, then do not pray. If it (menstruation) has gone, then clean the menstrual blood and pray."

Ghusl After Wet Dreams for Women

The third cause of compulsory ghusl for women is a wet dream that causes sperm to come out. So, if they have experienced that, then they should do ghusl. We can find an explanation of that in the hadith below:

From Umm Salamah, Ummul Mukminin, radliyallahu anha, that she said, "Umm Sulaym, the wife of Abu Talha, has come to the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. She then said, "O Messenger of Allah, verily Allah is not ashamed of the truth: should a woman take a bath if she has had wet dreams?" The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, "Yes if he has seen the water (her sperm comes out).

From Anas radliyalaahu anhu, he said, "Allah's Messenger sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam has said (about women who dream of seeing something seen by men in his dream him), "She must take a bath." The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Muslim added the editor of the hadith, "Um Salamah then asked, "And is this there?" He (Prophet Muhammad) replied, "Yes. Then where is that similarity?"

Ghusl After Nifas for Women

The fourth cause of compulsory ghusl for women is Nifas. So, after Nifas they have to do ghusl. One of the experts in Islamic law from Indonesia, Imam Nawawi, said;

Because, really ghusl is compulsory with the cause of the release of water (sperm) that babies are created from, then with the birth of a child (the obligation to bathe) it is more important (because of ghusl).

Ghusl After the Death for Women

The fourth cause of compulsory ghusl for women is death. I have already explained what it means. So, the soul of a Muslim woman dies, then they have the right to get ghusl from the Muslim woman who is still alive. We can find an explanation of that in the hadith below:

From Ummu Athiyyah radliyallahu anha, she said, "The Prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam met us while we were bathing his daughter. He then said, "Wash her up to three times, or five times, or more than that if you think that is good, by using water and ziziphus spina christi leaves. Mix the water with camphor leaves in the last wash, or something that comes from camphor trees. "When we finished bathing him, we told him. He then gave us his sarong and said, "Put it on his body (her) directly." The hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Ghusl After Converting to Islam for Women

The sixth cause of ghusl compulsory for women is to convert to Islam. So, if a woman (including a man) converts to Islam, then she must perform ghusl. One of the goals is to rid themselves of the great hadas that existed in their bodies when they had not yet converted to Islam.

We can find an explanation of that in the hadith below:

The Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sent an army to Najd. They then went home with someone from the prophet Hanifah called "Tsumamah bin Utsal". They then tied him to one of the pillars of the mosque. The Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam then met him (Tsumamah bin Utsal). He (Prophet Muhammad) then said, "Let go of Tsumamah." After that he (Tsumamah) went to one of the date palm gardens near the mosque. He then took a shower. Then he entered the mosque and said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

All readers! That's a brief explanation of "when is ghusl compulsory for women?". Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask.

I think that's enough for this article. May be useful. Amen.

See you again in the next article!
