The status of Salatul Ghaib in Islam is fardhu Kifayah. The point is that if there are Muslims who have done that, then other Muslims are not obliged to do it. But if no Muslim does that, then all Muslims are sinful.

عَنْ أَبِيْ هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ نَعَى النَّجَاشِيَّ فِيْ الْيَوْمِ الَّذِيْ مَاتَ فِيْهِ وَخَرَجَ بِهِمْ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَصَفَّ بِهِمْ ، وَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعًا . مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ
From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu anhu, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam announced the death of king Najasyi on the day of his death. He then went out to the prayer room with his friends. He then prayed with them. He said four times. The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
