Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation of “what is allowed between husband and wife in Ramadan?”? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That’s why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!
Specifically, there are two important points about “what is allowed between husband and wife in Ramadan?” which I will explain in this article. Two important things I mean are as follows:
Husband and Wife Relationship in Ramadan
The first important thing about “what is allowed between husband and wife in Ramadan?” what I will explain now is husband and wife relationship in Ramadan. I want you to understand that because it is one of the important topics in this article that must be well understood.
Before I explain husband and wife relationship in Ramadan, I want to remind you that Ramadan is a very noble month. For Muslims, Ramadan is a month of self-purification. The point is that Ramadan is a very good time to repent and do good things that can increase our reward. During Ramadan, kindness will be rewarded with double goodness. Likewise, bad things.
During Ramadan, adult Muslims are required to fast unless they have a justifiable reason in Islam not to fast. As long as they fast, they are not allowed to eat, drink, and do other things that can break the fast.
In general, there are eight things that can spoil fasting. The eight things I mean are as follows:
One: if something gets into the body orifices on purpose. For example, if water enters the throat on purpose, then our fast is broken.
Two: treating by inserting objects (medicine or other objects) in one of two ways (qubul and anus).
Three: vomiting on purpose. If a person vomits accidentally or vomits suddenly (ghalabah) then his fast is still considered valid as long as none of his vomit is swallowed again. If the vomit is swallowed intentionally then the fast is invalidated.
Four: having sex with the opposite sex (jima’) on purpose.
Five: the discharge of semen (sperm) is caused by touching the skin.
Six: menstruation and puerperium.
Eight: apostasy or leaving Islam.
The discussion on husband and wife relationship in Ramadan is one of the important discussions in Islamic legal literacy. I say that because there are certain things they are allowed to do on days when they are not fasting, which they are not allowed to do when they are fasting during Ramadan. If they do that, their fast will be invalidated and they will have a very big consequence. One of the things I mean is sex during the fast in Ramadan.
We can find explanations that husband and wife should not have sex during fasting in Ramadan in the Quran and hadith below:
It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives [for sexual relations]. They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them. Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He accepted your repentance and forgave you. So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the sunset. And do not have relations with them as long as you are staying for worship in the mosques. These are the limits [set by] Allah, so do not approach them. Thus, does Allah make clear His ordinances to the people that they may become righteous. (Al-Baqarah : 187).
The hadith I mean is as follows:
Abu Hurairah narrated that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. The man then said, “Woe to me! I interfere with my wife (during the day) in Ramadan (having sex). He said, “Free a female slave.” The man replied, “I can’t.” He said, “Fast for two consecutive months.” The man replied, “I can’t.” He again said, “Give food to sixty poor people.”
In simple terms, I want to say that there are some things that a husband and wife can do while they are both fasting in Ramadan, and there are some things that they both cannot do.
That is a brief explanation of husband and wife relationship in Ramadan. As Muslims, we must understand that.
