Spitting in When Someone is Praying (Salat) ~ Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain the law of spitting and procedure if someone has to do it when he is praying. It’s true that not everyone will do that when he is praying. But there are some conditions that require him to do that, or at least he needs to do that.
As always, before I explain about spitting when someone is praying (Salat) further, I will quote one hadith that is specifically related to this theme. Pay attention!
Hadith About Spitting During Prayer (Salat)
The hadith about spitting when someone is praying (Salat) that I mean is as follows:
From Anas radliyallaahu ‘anhu, he said, “Allah’s Messenger sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said, “If one of you is praying, then he is actually in the midst of his Lord. Then let him not spit on the front side and on his right side, but on his left side under his feet.” The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
There are several important things related to the hadith above;
One; The hadith explains that saliva is sacred.
Two; The hadith explains that someone may spit when he is praying.
Three; The hadith explains, that if someone want to spit when he is praying, then he has to spit on his left side. He cannot spit on the front because it is the direction of qiblah. If he does that, then it is as if he spits in front of God. Surely that is very unethical. Besides that, he also shouldn’t spit on his right side.
Four; In Islamic teachings, prayer is a moment when a person’s soul rises to the highest level to stand with Allah. That is why someone must maintain ethics when he is praying.
