Spitting in Mosque

The Law of Spitting in Mosque ~ Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain the law of a small problem but has enormous consequences in Islam. Yup! What I mean is spitting in the mosque. Spitting is a normal activity. I think we've all done it before. But the problem is, can we do it in the mosque?

As always, before I answer the question above, I will quote a hadith that is specifically related to our discussion.

Hadith About Spitting in Mosque

The hadith about spitting in Mosque that I mean is as follows;

عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ ؛ قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؛ الْبُصَاقُ فِيْ الْمَسْجِدِ خَطِيْئَةٌ وَكَفَّارَتُهَا دَفْنُهَا . مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ

From Anas radliyallaahu anhu, he said, "Allah's Messenger sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said, "Spitting in a mosque is a sin and the way to redeem it is to cover it up (clean it)." The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

There are some important things related to the hadith above that we need to know;

The above hadith explains, that saliva is holy, not unclean.
The hadith also explains, that spitting in the mosque is a sin and the way to redeem it is to clean it.
The hadith explains, that any sin, although small, must be kept in mind.

All readers! If we look at the brief explanation above, of course we already know, that we should not spit in the mosque. That is sin. If we already do that, we have to clean it. Allah says;

وَإِذۡ بَوَّأۡنَا لِإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ مَكَانَ ٱلۡبَيۡتِ أَن لَّا تُشۡرِكۡ بِي شَيۡ‍ٔٗا وَطَهِّرۡ بَيۡتِيَ لِلطَّآئِفِينَ وَٱلۡقَآئِمِينَ وَٱلرُّكَّعِ ٱلسُّجُودِ ٢٦

And when We assigned to Ibrahim the place of the House, saying: Do not associate with Me aught, and purify My House for those who make the circuit and stand to pray and bow and prostrate themselves. (Al-Hajj [22]; 26).
