Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain the meaning of “as-Sabil” in Quran about Hajj. I think as Muslims we have heard that word. In language, the meaning of the word is “journey”. But what is meant by the journey in the verse? If you want to know the answer, then you should read this article until it finishes!

Quran and Hadith About “As-Sabil”

We can find the word “as-Sabil” or “Sabil” in the Qur’anic verse below;

In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it shall be safe. And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House – for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves – then indeed, Allah is free from the need of the worlds. (Ali Imran [3]; 97).

There is also an explanation of the meaning of the word “as-Sabil” or “Sabil” in the hadith below;

From Anas radliyallahu ‘anhu, he said,” It has been said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is “as-Sabil “?” He said, “Provisions and vehicles.” The Hadith was narrated by ad-Daruquthni.

All Readers! In the hadith above explained that what is meant by “as-Sabil” or “Sabil” is “az-Zadu” and “ar-Rahilatu”. In short, the meaning of the word “az-zadu” is the provision that is needed by someone during his Hajj. While the meaning of the word “ar-Rahilatu” is a vehicle used to perform Hajj. These two things are the standard of the obligation to perform Hajj for a Muslim.
