People Who Are Entitled to Receive Zakat: Hi all readers! In the previous article, I explained some basic things about zakat. One of the core points is that rich Muslims must pay zakat because it is their obligation. Zakat is given to poor people who need it. But actually, there are several types of people who are entitled to receive zakat, not only the poor. That is what I will explain in this article.

We can find an explanation of the types of people who are entitled to receive zakat in Quran.

Quran About People Who Are Entitled to Receive Zakat

The Quran about people who are entitled to receive zakat that I mean is as follows:

Alms are only for the poor and the needy, and the officials (appointed) over them, and those whose hearts are made to incline (to truth) and the (ransoming of) captives and those in debts and in the way of Allah and the wayfarer; an ordinance from Allah; and Allah is Knowing, Wise. (At-Taubah [9]; 60).

Facts About Zakat in Islam

All Readers! If we understand the above Quranic verse, then we know that there are eight types of people who are entitled to zakat. An explanation of that is as follows;

First; Poor Muslims.

What is meant by poor Muslims are Muslims who really do not have anything to make ends meet. The level of difficulty of their lives is very large. They are the first types of people who are entitled to receive zakat.

Second; Needy Muslims.

What is meant by needy Muslims are Muslims who find it difficult to make ends meet, but their level of difficulty is lighter than indigent Muslims. They are the second type of people who are entitled to zakat.

Third; Muslims who take care of zakat.

What is meant by Muslims who take care of zakat are Muslims who take alms from wealthy Muslims, then prepare the distribution of zakat, and give alms to those who are entitled to get it. They take care of the process. They are the third type of person who is entitled to receive zakat.

Fourth; People who are expected to become Muslims.

In the previous article I explained, that non-Muslims are not entitled to receive zakat. But non-Muslims who are very likely to become Muslims and are expected to become Muslims are entitled to receive zakat. They are the fourth type of person who is entitled to receive zakat.

Fifth; Muslims who are slaves and want to free themselves.
