Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation of niyyat for Tahajjud prayer? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That’s why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!

Specifically, there are three important things about niyyat for Tahajjud prayer which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:

  1. What Is Niyyat in Islam?
  2. Why Do You Have to Say Niyyat for Tahajjud Prayer?
  3. Niyyat for Tahajjud Prayer.

What Is Niyyat in Islam?

The first important thing about niyyat for Tahajjud prayer that I will explain now is “what is niyyat in Islam?”. I want you to understand that before you read any further explanations in this article because it is one of the important questions in this discussion which should be well understood.

Before I explain about “what is niyyat in Islam?”, I will quote a hadith that is specifically related to this question. The hadith I mean is as follows:

From Umar radliyallahu anhu, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “Action depends on his intention (niyyat), and a person only gets something according to his intention. Whoever emigrated to Allah and His Messenger, then his emigration was to Allah and His Messenger, and whoever emigrated for the sake of the world or because of the woman he wanted to marry, then his emigration was according to where he migrated.”

All readers! If we understand the hadith above, we can conclude that “niyyat in Islam” is the intention or purpose of an action. That is what distinguishes one action from another. In Islam, everything depends on niyyat. If the niyyat is good, then the deed is good. If the niyyat is bad, then the action is bad.

That is a brief explanation of “what is niyyat in Islam?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Why Do You Have to Say Niyyat for Tahajjud Prayer?

The second important thing about niyyat forTahajjud prayer that I will explain now is “why do you have to say niyyat for Tahajjud prayer?”. I want you to understand that now so that you understand the urgency of this discussion. There are some Muslims who do not understand that well.

In the previous few paragraphs, I have explained that niyyat in Islam is the intention or purpose of action. That is what distinguishes one action from another. That is the basic explanation of “niyyat” that you must understand.

Now, if you ask me, “why do you have to say niyyat for Tahajjud prayer?”, the answer is to explain your point, that the prayer you are going to do is Tahajjud prayer, not Witr prayer, the repentance prayer, Fajr prayer, Isha prayer, and so on. so on.

In Islam, niyyat for each prayer is different. Niyyat for Tahajjud prayer is different from niyyat for Witr prayer. Niyyat for Fajr prayer is different from niyyat for Isha prayer. Niyyat for Janazah prayer is different from niyyat for Zuhr prayer. Niyyat for Zuhr prayer is different from niyyat for Asr prayer. Niyyat for Qabliyah prayer is different from niyyat for Badiyah prayer. Niyyat for lunar eclipse prayer is different from niyyat for solar eclipse prayer. Niyyat for Duha prayer is different from niyyat for repentance prayer, and so on. As Muslims, we must understand that.

That’s a brief explanation of “why do you have to say niyyat for Tahajjud prayer?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.
