Niyyah for Ablution (Wudu) ~ Hi all readers! Wudu is one of the important rituals in Islam. I think there have been many explanations about that. I have also explained many things about it on this website, such as the virtue of wudu for Muslims, the way the Prophet Muhammad performed wudu, the law of using Siwak after wudu, and so on. You can read it all if indeed you want to know about it all.
In this article, I will explain one important thing about wudu that should be known by Muslims. Besides, they all have to do that when performing wudu. Without that their ablution is invalid. Thus, it is one of the foundations of ablution that must exist. One important thing I mean is niyyah for ablution (wudu).
I need to explain here, that what is meant by niyyah for wudu (ablution) is a series of times that a Muslim must say when he starts ablution (wudu), that is what distinguishes wudu and ordinary movements that resemble ablution (wudu).
Niyyah for Ablution (Wudu)
Niyyah for ablution (wudu) is as follows;
نَوَيْتُ الْوُضُوْءَ لِرَفْعِ الْحَدَثِ الْأَصْغَرِ فَرْضًا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى
I intend to perform wudu to get rid of a small hadas, (I do it because of) obligation, because Allah is Exalted.
All Readers! If you cannot say niyyah for ablution (wudu) in Arabic, then you can say it in whatever language you can. That is because what is important in this case is the niyyah, not Arabic.
Maybe now you are wondering when is the right time to say the niyyah; before gargling, when gargling, when washing the face, or what?
You need to know, that the above question is very related to what must be done in wudu or the things that are required in wudu. The point is that a Muslim must say the niyyah when he performs the first obligation in ablution (wudu).
By the way, do you know what the first mandatory thing to do in ablution (wudu)? If you answer that it is gargling, then you are wrong, because the first mandatory thing to do in ablution is to wash your face. So, when a Muslim washing his face in wudu, he must say that the niyyah.
I think that’s a brief explanation of this article. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!
I think that’s enough for this article. May be useful. Amen!
