Muslim Men Marry Non-Muslim Women ~ Hi all readers! In general, marriage is a ritual performed by men and women so that they can become married couples. In Islam too. Muslim marries Muslima so they can become a married couple. But in some cases, there are Muslim men who love non-Muslim Women. They both also want to get married. But the question is, does Islam allow that? As Muslims, we must know that. There are several important explanations about it. That’s why I wrote this article.

Quran About Muslim Men Marry Non-Muslim Women
The Quran about Muslim men marry non-Muslim women that I mean is as follows:
وَلَا تَنكِحُواْ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكَٰتِ حَتَّىٰ يُؤۡمِنَّۚ وَلَأَمَةٞ مُّؤۡمِنَةٌ خَيۡرٞ مِّن مُّشۡرِكَةٖ وَلَوۡ أَعۡجَبَتۡكُمۡۗ وَلَا تُنكِحُواْ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ حَتَّىٰ يُؤۡمِنُواْۚ وَلَعَبۡدٞ مُّؤۡمِنٌ خَيۡرٞ مِّن مُّشۡرِكٖ وَلَوۡ أَعۡجَبَكُمۡۗ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يَدۡعُونَ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَدۡعُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱلۡجَنَّةِ وَٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِ بِإِذۡنِهِۦۖ وَيُبَيِّنُ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ ٢٢١
And don’t marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And don’t marry polytheistic men [to your women] until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you. Those invite [you] to the Fire, but Allah invites to Paradise and to forgiveness, by His permission. And He makes clear His verses to the people that maybe they might remember. (Al-Baqarah [2]; 221).
The Qur’anic verse above explains that Muslim men cannot marry non-Muslim women, and Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslim men for any reason. The ban arises because their beliefs are different. But what we need to understand is that what is meant by non-Muslim men or non-Muslim women who should not be married are people who do not follow a religion that came down from sky.
Maybe you are now wondering, what are the religions that came down from sky (which came from Allah) so that marriages conducted by people of different religions from their circles are allowed?

All Readers! You must know that there are three religions that came down from heaven, which came from Allah. The three religions are Islam, Judaism and Christianity. Thus, if there are Muslim men who are married to Jewish women or Christian women, then their marriage is permitted. We can find an explanation about that in the Quranic verse below;
ٱلۡيَوۡمَ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتُۖ وَطَعَامُ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ حِلّٞ لَّكُمۡ وَطَعَامُكُمۡ حِلّٞ لَّهُمۡۖ وَٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ وَٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ وَٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتُ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ مُحۡصِنِينَ غَيۡرَ مُسَٰفِحِينَ وَلَا مُتَّخِذِيٓ أَخۡدَانٖۗ وَمَن يَكۡفُرۡ بِٱلۡإِيمَٰنِ فَقَدۡ حَبِطَ عَمَلُهُۥ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ ٥
This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking [secret] lovers. And whoever denies the faith – his work has become worthless, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers. (Al-Maidah [5]; 5).
Islamic legal experts also agreed, that marriages performed by people following religions that descended from sky are legal marriages. It is true, there is one opinion that prohibits it. That opinion is the opinion of Ibn Umar, “Allah has forbidden polytheists for male believers (Muslim men). I do not know that polytheism is greater than what a woman says, that her God is Jesus or one of God’s servants. “
But what we need to know about Ibn Umar’s opinion is, that the intention is, “It is better for Muslim men to only marry Muslim women, not Jewish or Christian women.” This opinion does not explain the prohibition.
