How Do a Muslim Go To the Toilet? Hi readers! A toilet is an important place for everyone. In that place, they bathe, urinate and defecate. Likewise, Muslims. However, Muslims are not allowed to be arbitrary when going into the toilet and while in it. The point is, that there are some rules that they must obey as taught by Islam. As Muslims, we must know that. That’s why I wrote this article.
As always, before I explain more about how a Muslim enters the toilet, I will quote a few hadiths that specifically relate to our discussion. Consider some of the hadiths as follows;
From Anas radliyallahu anhu, he said, “If the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam would enter the bathroom, he prayed, “O Lord, I have indeed taken refuge in You from the disruption of the male demons and the female demons.” The hadith is narrated by seven priests (Ahmad, al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Daud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah.
From Aishah radliyalluhu anhu, she said, “Indeed the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam was pleased to put the right member of the body first when he was wearing sandals when he combed his hair when he was ablution, and in all his affairs.” it was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
From Anas radliyallahu anhu, he said, “If the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam will enter the bathroom, then he puts down his ring.” The hadith is narrated by four people (Abu Daud, at-Tirmidzi, an-Nasa ‘i, and Ibn Majah).
There are several important things that we can conclude in relation to the three hadiths above;
One; a Muslim must pray before entering the toilet. The prayers that must be read are as explained in the first hadith.
Two; a Muslim must first step his left foot when he is going to enter the toilet, as the analogy of the second hadith.
Three; a Muslim is not allowed to read anything related to the name Allah, the Quran and the dhikr sentences into the toilet as we understand it from the third hadith.
