Now I want to explain the basics of marriage in Islam. We can find these basics in the Quran and hadith. Surely Quran and hadith become the main reference for all Muslims in their lives.
Basics of Marriage in Quran
Actually, there are many verses of Quran that describe marriage. But I will only quote the following two verses;
And if you fear that you cannot act equitably towards orphans, then marry such women as seem good to you, two and three and four; but if you fear that you will not do justice (between them), then (marry) only one or what your right hands possess; this is more proper, that you may not deviate from the right course. (An-Nisa’ ; 3).
And marry those among you who are single and those who are fit among your male slaves and your female slaves; if they are needy, Allah will make them free from want out of His grace; and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing. (An-Nur ; 32).
Basics of Marriage in Hadith
There are many hadiths that explain marriage. I will not quote everything. I will quote a very popular hadith. The hadith I mean is as follows;
From Ibn Mas’ud Radliyallahu ‘anhu, he said, “The messenger of Allah sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said to us, “O young people, anyone of you who can have sex, then he must get married. Indeed it (marriage) is better able to keep eye sight and better able to maintain vital organs. Anyone who can’t, then he must fast because it actually suppresses the desire to have sex.”
