The third important thing about makmum meaning in Arabic, English and Sharia which I will explain now is the makmum meaning in Sharia. I want you to understand that now because it is one of the important things in this discussion that must be well understood. In addition, the makmum meaning will change according to the context of the discussion.

Specifically, there are two important things about the makmum meaning in Sharia which I will explain in this article. Two important things I mean are as follows:

  1. Makmum meaning in prayer (Islamic Law).
  2. Makmum meaning in the Context of the State.

The explanation of the makmum meaning in prayer (Islamic law) and in the context of the state is as follows:

Makmum Meaning in Prayer (Islamic Law)

Now I will explain the makmum meaning in prayer (Islamic law). As Muslims, you must understand that because the meaning of the word "makmum" in prayer is very different from the meaning of the word in Arabic and English. (Best Position for One Makmum in Jamaah Prayer).

The prayer I mean in this discussion is the congregational prayer (prayer performed with other people). In congregational prayer there are two components that should not be separated. The two components I mean are makmum and imam.

The makmum meaning in prayer (Islamic law) is as follows:

الَّذِيْ يَقِفُ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ فِيْ الصَّلَاةِ

The person standing behind imam in prayer.

For example, if you and I perform the Jamaah prayer, if I am the imam, then you are the congregation. I have to stand in front of you and you have to stand behind me.

Some hadiths that explain makmum and imam in Jamaah prayer are as follows:

From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu anhu, he said," The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, "Surely someone is made a priest so that he is followed. If he does takbir, then do takbir. Don't you do takbir before he does takbir. If he does bow, then bow. Do not bow before you bow. If he says, "Sami'allaahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the person who praises him," then say "Allaahumma Rabbanaa wa laka al-Hamdu (O Allah, our Lord, only You praise all things." If he prostrates, then bow down "Do not make your prostration before you do prostration." If he prays by standing, then pray by standing up. If he prays by sitting, then pray by sitting all." The hadith is narrated by Abu Daud.

From Ibn Abbas radliyallahu anhuma, he said," I once prayed with the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam one night. I then stood on his left side. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam then took my head from behind me and directed me on his right side." The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Makmum Meaning in the Context of the State

Now I will explain the makmum meaning in the context of the state. As Muslims, you must understand that because the meaning of the word "makmum" in the context of the state is very different from the meaning of the word in Arabic, English, and prayer.

If we understand all the explanations above, we can conclude that the makmum is the one who is led while the imam is the one who leads. (Same Things and Different Things between Imam and Makmum).

So, specifically, I want to say that the makmum in the context of the state is the people while the imam is the president. We can also say that the makmum is the one who are led while the imam is the one who leads.

That is a brief explanation of makmum meaning in Sharia. As Muslims, we must understand that.
