The third important thing about “is there any Sunnah prayer before Maghrib?” what I will explain now is the types of Sunnah prayers before Maghrib. I want you to understand all of that at the end of this discussion so that you have a good understanding of the Sunnah prayers before Maghrib after you read this article.

In general, there are two types of Sunnah prayers before Maghrib. But we can’t do everything. The point is that in certain situations we can only do one of them.

The two types of Sunnah prayers before Maghrib are as follows:

One: Qabliyah Maghrib prayer.

Qabliyah Maghrib prayer is the first type of Sunnah prayer before Maghrib prayer that we can do. We can do that anywhere, such as at home, at work, at the mall, at the mosque, and so on.

The Qabliyah Maghrib prayer has two rakats. If you want to do that, then the niyyat of the Qabliyah Maghrib prayer is as follows:

أُصَلِّي قَبْلِيَّةَ الْمَغْرِبِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ سُنَّةً أَدَاءً لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

I intend to pray before Maghrib two rakats, as a sunnah, to be done now, because of Allah Taala.

The obligatory readings and Sunnah readings in the Qabliyah Maghrib prayer are as follows:

  1. Takbiratul Ihram.
  2. Niyyat for Qabliyah Maghrib Prayer.
  3. Surah al-Fatihah.
  4. Some of the verses of the Koran, in addition to the verses in Surah al-Fatihah.
  5. Bowing prayer.
  6. I’tidal prayer.
  7. Prostrate prayer.
  8. The prayer sits between the two prostrations.
  9. Final Tashahhud.
  10. Salam.

Two: Tahiyatul Masjid prayer.

The Tahiyatul Masjid prayer is a Sunnah prayer that is performed in honor of the mosque. The prayer must be performed in the mosque. So, if we go to the mosque to perform the Maghrib prayer, when we have just arrived at the mosque, we are encouraged to perform the Sunnah prayer.

We can find an explanation that the Tahiyatul Masjid prayer is one of the Sunnah prayers in Islam in the hadith below:

From Abu Qatadah radliyallahu anhu, he said, “The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said, “If anyone of you enters the mosque, then let him not sit down until he prays two rakats.” This hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

The Tahiyatul Masjid prayer has two rakats. If you want to do that, then the niyyat of the Tahiyatul Masjid prayer is as follows:

أُصَلِّي سُنَّةَ تَحِيَّةَ الْمَسْجِدِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةِ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

I intend to do the sunnah prayer (which is recommended), the mosque prayer, as many as two rakats, by facing the Qibla, because Allah Taala.

The obligatory readings and Sunnah readings in the Tahiyatul Masjid prayer are as follows:

  1. Takbiratul Ihram.
  2. Niyyat for Tahiyatul Masjid prayer.
  3. Surah al-Fatihah.
  4. Some of the verses of the Quran, in addition to the verses in Surah al-Fatihah.
  5. Bowing prayer.
  6. I’tidal prayer.
  7. Prostrate prayer.
  8. The prayer sits between the two prostrations.
  9. Final Tashahhud.
  10. Salam.

That is a brief explanation of the types of Sunnah prayers before Maghrib. As Muslims, we must understand that.
