Is Sperm Unclean According to Islam? ~ Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain the problems that we can encounter in everyday life. This problem is more often related to men than women. But it's good if women also understand it. It is not uncommon for men who have grown up to dream of having sex so that sperm is released from his penis. Or when a husband and wife have sex and sperm that comes out of the man's penis is rubbed with clothes.
Well, the problem is if the clothes affected by the sperm have been washed but there are still marks attached, are the marks sacred or unclean? may clothes like that be used for prayer?
There is a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad that we can use to answer the two questions above very clearly.
Hadith About Sperm
The hadith about sperm that I mean is as follows;
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَغْسِلُ الْمَنِيَّ ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فِيْ ذَلِكَ الثَّوْبِ وَأَنَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَثَرِ الْغُسْلِ . مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ . وَلِمُسْلِمٍ : لَقَدْ كُنْتُ أَفْرُكُهُ مِنْ ثَوْبِ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرْكًا فَيُصَلِّى فِيْهِ . وَفِيْ لَفْظٍ : لَقَدْ كُنْتُ أَحُكُّهُ يَابِسًا بِظُفْرِيْ مِنْ ثَوْبِهِ
From Aisha radiiyallahu anha, she said, “The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam once washed the seperma which was attached to his clothes. Then he went out to do the prayer using his clothes and I saw the former laundry.” The hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Muslims have another hadith editorial, “Indeed I have scraped the sperm from the clothes of the Prophet sallallaâhu ‘alaihi wa sallam until it fell out. He then prayed using the clothes.” In another editor, “Really I have scraped the dried sperm from his clothes with my nails.”
All readers! If we look at the hadith above, in general we understand that Allah Ta'ala has glorified and prioritized humans over animals. It is proven by the sacred and noble status of human origin; sperm. In the hadith there is a statement, that Aisha, the Mother of Believers, had scraped the sperm of the Prophet Muhammad attached to his clothes with her nails.
There are also some things that we must consider about the hadith above, that wet sperm must be cleaned by washing, while dry sperm can be cleaned by scraping. There are differences of opinion between Islamic law experts about it;
- Abu Hanifah and his followers, Malik, and Ahmad said, “That sperm is unclean.” They say that because there is a hadith narrated by ‘Ammar;
إِنَّمَا تَغْسِلُ ثَوْبَكَ مِنَ الْغَائِطِ وَالْبَوْلِ وَالْمَنِيِّ وَالدَّمِ وَالْقَيْئِ
Actually, you have to wash your clothes from feces, urine, sperm, blood, and vomit.
That is because sperm comes out of the urine. Malik understood the hadith that Aisha conveyed in another way, “Maybe the sperm was not felt or because his sperm was holy because it included the specificity given to him.”
- Abu Hanifah said, “If the sperm is wet, it must be washed, but if it is dry, then it is scraped.” That is to practice the two hadiths.
- Ash-Shafi’i, his followers, and Ahmad (Ahmad has two opinions and this is his valid opinion) said, “That sperm is holy.” They say that because there is a hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas;
عَنْ اِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْمَنِيِّ الَّذِيْ يُصِيْبُ الثَّوْبَ , قَالَ : إِنَّمَا هُوَ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْمَخَاطِ وَالْبَزَاقِ وَالْبُصَاقِ , وَقَالَ : إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيْكَ أَنْ تَمْسَحَهُ بِخَرْقَةٍ أَوِ ادَّخَرَةٍ . أَخْرَجَهُ الدّارُقُطْنِيُّ وَالْبَيْهَقِيُّ
From Ibn Abbas radliyallahu anhu, he said, “The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam was once asked about the sperm that was attached to the clothes. He said, “Indeed it is like snot and saliva.” He also said, “Surely you can just wipe it with a rag…” The hadith is narrated by ad-Daruquthni and al-Baihaqi.
