Specifically, there are three important things about “is it sunnah to have a cat?” which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:

The Meaning of Sunnah to Have a Cat

The first important thing about “is it sunnah to have a cat?” What I will explain here is the meaning of the phrase "it is sunnah to have a cat". I want you to understand that so that you have a complete understanding of the focus of our discussion.

If we look at the sentence "it is sunnah to have a cat", then we will understand that there are two points that we must understand. The two points I mean are as follows:

Sunnah

By the way, do you know what sunnah is? If you don't know about it, then you should remember that sunnah is everything that is attributed to Prophet Muhammad. That is an explanation of what the sunnah is in general.

The specific meaning of the sunnah is as follows:

Everything that is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, such as sayings, deeds, decisions, attributes of creation and ethics, either before he was sent as a Prophet and Messenger or after that.

That is one of the definitions of sunnah according to hadith experts.

You can find an explanation of the sunnah in the hadith below:

Whoever sets an example of good habits in Islam, then he will get his reward and the reward of those who imitate it, without reducing their reward in the slightest. And whoever sets an example of a bad habit, then he will get his sin, and the sin of those who follow him without reducing their sin in the slightest.

Have a cat

As for what is meant by "having a cat" is very simple, that someone has a cat.

So, we can understand the "sunnah to have a cat" in the following ways:

  • That Prophet Muhammad owned cats or told Muslims to be kind to cats.
  • That having a cat is one of the good things in Islam.

But, in general, if we find someone explaining the sunnah to have a cat, then it means that the Prophet Muhammad had a cat or told Muslims to be kind to him and that is a good thing in Islam. But if we find someone asking about the sunnah to have a cat, it means that the person is asking if it is permissible in Islam.

That is a brief explanation of the meaning of "sunnah to have a cat" that we must understand.

Hadith About Cat

The second important thing about “is it sunnah to have a cat?” what I will explain here is the hadith about cat. I want you to understand that so that you understand the basic argument for answering this question.

The hadith about cat is as follows:

From Abu Qatadah radiyallahu anhu, he (Prophet Muhammad) said about cats; “Actually, it is not unclean. That includes the animals that surround you.” The hadith was narrated by four people (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'I, and Ibn Majah) and Ibn Khuzaimah.

From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "…a woman enters Hell because she binds a cat and does not feed it nor does she let it go so that can eat small animals that are on the ground until it (the cat) dies."

That's a hadith about cats that we must understand.

Is it Sunnah to Have a Cat?

The third important thing about “is it sunnah to have a cat?” what I'm going to explain here is a specific answer. In other words, does Islam allow Muslims to have cats?

All readers! If we understand some of the explanations above, then we can conclude that having a cat is a sunnah. Why? The answer is because the Prophet Muhammad used to tell Muslims to be kind to cats. One important thing we must remember is that having a cat is not an obligation for Muslims. So if they don't have that, then they're not sinning.

That's a brief explanation of "is it sunnah to have a cat?". Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask.

I think that's enough for this article. May be useful. Amen.

See you again in the next article!
