The Meaning of Sunnah to Have a Cat
The first important thing about “is it sunnah to have a cat?” What I will explain here is the meaning of the phrase "it is sunnah to have a cat". I want you to understand that so that you have a complete understanding of the focus of our discussion.
If we look at the sentence "it is sunnah to have a cat", then we will understand that there are two points that we must understand. The two points I mean are as follows:
Sunnah
By the way, do you know what sunnah is? If you don't know about it, then you should remember that sunnah is everything that is attributed to Prophet Muhammad. That is an explanation of what the sunnah is in general.
The specific meaning of the sunnah is as follows:
Everything that is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, such as sayings, deeds, decisions, attributes of creation and ethics, either before he was sent as a Prophet and Messenger or after that.
That is one of the definitions of sunnah according to hadith experts.
You can find an explanation of the sunnah in the hadith below:
Whoever sets an example of good habits in Islam, then he will get his reward and the reward of those who imitate it, without reducing their reward in the slightest. And whoever sets an example of a bad habit, then he will get his sin, and the sin of those who follow him without reducing their sin in the slightest.

From Abu Qatadah radiyallahu anhu, he (Prophet Muhammad) said about cats; “Actually, it is not unclean. That includes the animals that surround you.” The hadith was narrated by four people (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'I, and Ibn Majah) and Ibn Khuzaimah.
From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "…a woman enters Hell because she binds a cat and does not feed it nor does she let it go so that can eat small animals that are on the ground until it (the cat) dies."
