And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (At-Taubah [9]; 5).

اِنَّ عِدَّةَ الشُّهُوْرِ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ اثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرًا فِيْ كِتٰبِ اللّٰهِ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضَ مِنْهَآ اَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ ۗذٰلِكَ الدِّيْنُ الْقَيِّمُ ەۙ فَلَا تَظْلِمُوْا فِيْهِنَّ اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَقَاتِلُوا الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ كَاۤفَّةً كَمَا يُقَاتِلُوْنَكُمْ كَاۤفَّةً ۗوَاعْلَمُوْٓا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ مَعَ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ

Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous [who fear Him]. (At-Taubah [9]: 36).

إنَّ الزَّمانَ قَدِ اسْتَدارَ كَهَيْئَتِهِ يَومَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَواتِ والأرْضَ، السَّنَةُ اثْنا عَشَرَ شَهْرًا، مِنْها أرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌ، ثَلاثٌ مُتَوالِياتٌ: ذُو القَعْدَةِ، وذُو الحِجَّةِ، والمُحَرَّمُ، ورَجَبُ مُضَرَ الذي بيْنَ جُمادَى وشَعْبانَ

Verily, times are turning as when Allah created the heavens and the earth. One year has twelve months. Among them are four glorified months, three consecutive months: Dhul Qadah, Dhul Hijjah, and Muharram, then the month of Rajab of the Mudhar tribe, between Jumadil Tsani (Jumadil Akhir) and Sha'ban.

• Muslims are encouraged to fast in the months glorified in Islam (al-Asyhur al-Hurum). Rajab is one of the glorified months.
• The ancient Arabs, including the Muslims, did not wage war in the glorified months (except for self-defense). Rajab is one of the glorified months (al-Asyhur al-Hurum). We can understand that if we read surah at-Taubah, verses 5 and 36, as I have quoted in the previous few paragraphs.
