Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That’s why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!
Specifically, there are three important points about “how to do Tawbah for Zina?” which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:
- Why Is Tawbah for Zina Important.
- How to Do Tawbah for Zina Before Marriage and Zina After Marriage?
- Best Prayer for Tawbah for Zina.
Why Is Tawbah for Zina Important
The first important thing about “how to do Tawbah for Zina?” what I will explain now is “why is Tawbah for Zina important?”. I want you to understand that first before you read more explanations in this article so that you understand the urgency of the discussion in this article.
In Islamic law, Zina is having sex without marriage which is legal according to Islam. The point is that there are men and women who are not husband and wife having sex. In general, it is carried out with the vital organs in front.
In Islam, Zina is one of the most heinous sins. That’s why Muslims are strictly prohibited from doing anything that can motivate them to commit Zina. We can find this explanation in the following Quranic verse:
And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way. (Al-Isra :32).
If you want to understand why Tawabah for Zina is important, you must understand the consequences of Zina in Islam. You must understand the fatal consequences if you commit Zina. That’s what I’ll explain in the next few paragraphs.
There are many consequences of Zina in Islam. Muslims who commit adultery will be punished in this world and in the hereafter. That is another reason why Zina is strictly prohibited in Islam.
One of the consequences of Zina is that the faith of the Muslims who commit Zina will decrease. We can find this explanation in the hadith below:
If a person commits Zina, then his faith decreases (the light of his faith is lost) as if he is being covered by a cloud (above his head). If he is free from Zina, then that faith will return to him.
In Islam, if more and more people commit Zina, it means that the Day of Judgment is imminent: Zina is one of the signs of the Day of Judgment. We can find this explanation in the hadith below:
Indeed, among the signs of the coming of the Last Day are the knowledge of being lifted up, the amount of ignorance, the drunk of khamr (many people drink khamr), and the openly committed Zina (many people commit Zina openly).
As one of the major sins, Zina has fatal consequences in this world and in the hereafter. Now I will not explain much about the consequences of Zina in the hereafter because the conclusion is very clear: the person who commits Zina will be severely punished in Hell.
If a Muslim commits Zina before marriage, then he must be lashed a hundred times and exiled to a place (please note: this was Islamic law at the time of Prophet Muhammad and some time after). We can find this explanation in the following verses of the Quran and hadith:
The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse – lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment. (An-Nur 24:2).
Al-Bukhari has narrated a hadith from Abu Hurairah, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu ‘alayhi wa salla had made a legal decision for people who had committed Zina before marriage, by being exiled to a place and punished.
If a Muslim commits Zina after marriage, he must be flogged until he dies (please note: this was Islamic law at the time of Prophet Muhammad and some time after). We can find this explanation in the hadith below:
From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu anhu, he said, “There was a Muslim who once came to the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam while he was in the mosque. The Muslim then called him, “O Messenger of Allah, indeed I have committed Zina.” He then turned away from the Muslim. He then looked away from the person’s face. The person then said, “O Messenger of Allah, indeed I have committed Zina.” He then turned away from the person. This incident was repeated four times. When that person had testified for himself four times, Allah’s Messenger then called him and asked, “Are you crazy?” The person said, “No”. He then asked, “Are you married?” The person said, “Yes.” Allah’s Messenger sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam then said, “Go with him and lash him.” This hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
That’s a brief explanation of “why is Tawbah for Zina important?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.
How to Do Tawbah for Zina Before Marriage and Zina After Marriage?
The second important thing about “how to do Tawbah for Zina?” what I will explain now is “how to do Tawbah for Zina before marriage and Zina after marriage?”. I want you to understand that because it is one of the important questions about tawbah for Zina.
In short, there are six things you can do to do Tawbah for Zina before marriage and Zina after marriage:
One: you must always remember that Zina is a great sin.
Two: you must always be sorry because you have committed Zina.
Three: you must swear that you will never commit Zina again for ever.
Four: you must perform the prayer of repentance, a prayer that is specifically made to repent.
Five: you must recite as much Istighfar as possible.
Six: you should recite as much Salawat as possible.
One of the virtues of reading Salawat is to remove sins. For this reason, I highly recommend reading Salawat as one of the best steps to repenting from Zina. So, you should recite as much Salawat as possible, especially on Fridays.
Why on Friday? Reading Salawat on Friday has many virtues, especially to repent. We can find this explanation in the following hadiths:
From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu anhu, he said, “The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, “Reading Salawat to me is the light above the Shirath (bridge to Heaven). Whoever reads Salawat to me on Friday eighty times, Allah will forgive all his sins which he has committed for eighty years.”
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, “Whoever reads Salawat to me on Friday a thousand times, he will not die until he sees his place in Heaven.”
From Abu Dzarr radliyallahu anhu, he said, “The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,” Whoever reads Salawat to me on Friday, all his sins which he has committed for two hundred years will be forgiven. “
That’s a brief explanation of “how to do Tawbah for Zina before marriage and Zina after marriage?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.
