Specifically, there are four important points about “how to bury a cat in Islam?” which I will explain in this article. The four important things I mean are as follows:

  1. Why Is Cat Special Animal in Islam?
  2. Why should a Dead Cat be Buried in Islam?
  3. Six Ways to Bury Cat in Islam.
  4. Prayer for Dead Cat in Islam.

The first important thing about “how to bury a cat in Islam?” What I will explain now is “why is cat a special animal in Islam?”. I want you to understand that first before you read more explanations in this article because maybe it is one of the things that Muslims don’t understand.

Before I explain more about “why is cat a special animal in Islam?”, I want to explain that cat is sacred or not unclean animal. So, a cat’s body, its licking, its saliva is sacred. So, our ablution will not be damaged if we have touched a cat. We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

عَنْ أَبِيْ قَتَادَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : فِيْ الْهِرَّةِ : إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ بِنَجَسٍ ، إِنَّمَا هِيَ مِنَ الطَّوَافِيْنَ عَلَيْكُمْ . أَخْرَجَهُ الْأَرْبَعَةُ وَ إِبْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ

From Abu Qatadah radiyallahu anhu, he (Prophet Muhammad) said about cats; “Actually, it is not unclean. That includes the animals that surround you.” The hadith was narrated by four people (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah) and Ibn Khuzaimah.

One important thing that we must remember is that Islam strictly forbids Muslims from eating cat meat. The reason is because cats are meat-eating animals or some kind of carnivorous animal.

In fact, there are many reasons “why is cat special animal in Islam?” One of them is because the cat is one of the animals that is often mentioned in the hadith. There is even one hadith which specifically explains that a woman will go to Hell because she has tortured a cat to death.

The hadith I mean is as follows:

From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “…a woman enters Hell because she binds a cat and does not feed it nor does she let it go so that can eat small animals that are on the ground until it (the cat) dies.”

As for the second reason “why is cat special animal in Islam?” is because the Prophet Muhammad loved cat very much. There are many explanations for that. So, I will not explain that in this article because it is not related to our main topic now.

That’s a brief explanation of “why is cat special animal in Islam?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Why should a Dead Cat be Buried in Islam?

The second important point about “how to bury a cat in Islam?” what I will explain now is “why should a dead cat be buried in Islam?”. I want you to understand that because it is one of the important questions of this discussion that must be understood very well.

To be honest, I haven’t found a specific explanation in Islamic literatures about “why should a dead cat be buried in Islam?”. So, if we want to understand the answer to this question, then we must think rationally about the consequences if a dead cat is not buried.

Specifically, there are two main reasons “why should a dead cat be buried in Islam?”:

One: so that the cat carcass does not disturb other people.

The smell of animal and human carcasses is very rotten, unlike the carcasses of fish, grasshoppers, and so on. We don’t need to argue about that. So, the first reason “why should a dead cat be buried in Islam” is so that the cat carcass and its smell do not disturb other people.

Two: honoring one of the creatures that Allah has created and whom the Prophet Muhammad loved.

Cats are one of the creatures that Allah has created. God has given him life. All creatures created by Allah have the right to be treated well. In addition, the Prophet Muhammad loved cats very much. I’ve explained that before. That’s why there is nothing wrong if we bury a dead cat with the intention of honoring the creatures that Allah has created and who are loved by the Prophet Muhammad.

That’s a brief explanation of “why should a dead cat be buried in Islam?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.
