Hadith About Early Tashahhud and Final Tashahhud

The hadith about early Tashahhud and final Tashahhud that I mean is as follows:

From Abdullah bin Mas'ud radliyallaahu 'anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam saw us then he said," If someone of you prayed, then let him say, "All respects to Allah, all prayers (because Allah), and all praise (for Allah). May the greetings, mercy of Allah and His kindness always be poured out on you, O Prophet. May salvation always be poured upon us and to all godly servants of Allah. I testify that there is no god but Allah Almighty. There is no ally for Him. I testify that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger." Then he (the person) chose whatever prayer he liked." The hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

From Abi Mas'ud radliyallaahu ‘anhu, he said," Basyir bin Sa'ad said, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah has told us that we read the prayer for you. How do we pray for you? "He was silent then said," Say, "O Allah, give glory to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You have given glory to Abraham. Give blessings to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you gave blessings to Abraham in the universe. Indeed, You are the Most Praising and Most Noble." Then you do greetings as you know." The hadith is narrated by Muslim.

All readers! Indeed, there is no explanation in the two hadiths that specifically explain the initial Tashahhud prayer and the final Tashahhud. But the information in both of them is what a Muslim must read. Specifically, the initial Tashahhud prayer is as follows;

"All respects to Allah, all prayers (because Allah), and all praise (for Allah). May the greetings, mercy of Allah and His kindness always be poured out on you, O Prophet. May salvation always be poured upon us and to all godly servants of Allah. I testify that there is no god but Allah Almighty. There is no ally for Him. I testify that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger. O Allah, give glory to Muhammad."

While the final Tashahhud prayer is as follows;

O Messenger of Allah, Allah has told us that we read the prayer for you. How do we pray for you? "He was silent then said," Say, "O Allah, give glory to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You have given glory to Abraham. Give blessings to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you gave blessings to Abraham in the universe. Indeed, You are the Most Praising and Most Noble."

You need to know that in the early Tashahhud and the final Tashahhud, when someone arrived at the sentence أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ, then he had to point his index finger straight right forward. That is a sign that God is only one; Allah Ta'ala. He must do that until the Tashahhud prayer is finished.

There are several things related to the two hadith above that we need to know;

  • We must not say the sentence
  • We are encouraged to say the Tashahhud prayer with an editor like that.
  • We are granted to say any prayer after Tashahhud. That is the opinion of the majority of Islamic law experts. But according to Abu Hanifah, we must not read prayers other than the prayers taught by the Prophet Muhammad.
  • We are encouraged to read the prayer to the Prophet Muhammad with the editor as I explained above.

That is a brief explanation of early Tashahhud and final Tashahhud. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!

I think that is enough for this article. May be useful! Amen!

See you again in the next article!
