Does Petting a Cat Break Wudu?
Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation of “does petting a cat break wudu?”? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That's why I wrote this article. So, you have to read it to the end.
Specifically, there are three important points about “does petting a cat break wudu?” which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:
Cat in Islam
The first important thing about “does petting a cat break wudu?” what I will explain now is the cat in Islam. I want you to understand that before you read more explanations in this article so that you can understand the focus of our discussion now.
In general, we can find explanations about cat in Islam in the hadith below:
عَنْ أَبِيْ قَتَادَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : فِيْ الْهِرَّةِ : إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ بِنَجَسٍ ، إِنَّمَا هِيَ مِنَ الطَّوَافِيْنَ عَلَيْكُمْ . أَخْرَجَهُ الْأَرْبَعَةُ وَ إِبْنُ خُزَيْمَةَ
From Abu Qatadah radiyallahu anhu, he (Prophet Muhammad) said about cat; “Actually, it is not unclean. That includes the animals that surround you.” The hadith was narrated by four people (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'I, and Ibn Majah) and Ibn Khuzaimah.
All readers! There are two important things about the hadith above that you must understand:
- C and food or drinks that have been drunk and eaten by cat are sacred.
- If the cat’s mouth is unclean, the mouth is automatically unclean. His mouth becomes unclean because there is unclean sticking. So, if the unclean is gone, then the mouth is holy again.
That's a brief explanation of the cat in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand that.
Things That Break Wudu
The second important point about “does petting a cat break wudu?” what I will explain now are the things that brreak wudu. I want you to understand that so you can make the right answer to focus our discussion now.
In general, there are five things that can break wudu:
- One: if something comes out of two holes: the front hole (penis and vagina) and the back hole (anus).
We can find this explanation in the following Quranic verse:
أَوْ جَاءَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مِنَ الْغَائِطِ
“Or one of you has come from the bathroom.” (Al-Maidah: 6).
- Two: loss of mind due to sleep, madness, and so on.
We can find this explanation in the hadith below:
فَمَنْ نَامَ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ
“Whoever sleeps, let him perform wudu.” This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud.
- Three: if the skin of a man and a woman who is not a mahram touch without a barrier.
We can find this explanation in the following Quranic verse:
أَوْ لَامَسْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ
“Or you touch a girl.” (Al-Maidah: 6).
- Four: touching penis, vagina, or anus using the palms of the hands or the inside of the fingers.
We can find this explanation in the hadith below:
مَنْ مَسَّ ذَكَرَهُ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ
Whoever holds his penis, let him perform wudu. This hadith was narrated by Ahmad.
- Five: vomiting and nosebleeds.
We can find this explanation in the hadith below:
From Aisyah radiyallahu anha, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, "Whoever is exposed to vomiting, nosebleeds (blood coming out of the nose), qalas (fluid that comes from the throat that fills the mouth or other things but it is not vomit) or madhiy, then let him perform wudu and then continue his prayer as long as he does not speak." This hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah.
All readers! That is the general explanation of the things that break wudu. As Muslims, we must understand that.
Does Petting a Cat Break Wudu?
The third important point about “does petting a cat break wudu?” what I'm going to explain now is a specific answer about that.
All readers! If we understand some of the explanations above, then there are two important things that we must understand before we make specific answers to the questions that are the focus of our discussion now:
- Cats are sacred animals as long as there is nothing unclean in their bodies.
- Petting a cat is something that is permissible in Islam.
So, if we have understood these two things, then we can conclude that petting a cat does not break wudu if there is not something unclean in its body that we stroke. But if there is something unclean in his body that we stroke, then it break wudu. That's the answer.
