Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation of “does ghusl include washing hair?”? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. So, you should read it to the end!
Specifically, there are two important things about “does ghusl include washing hair?” which I will explain in this article. Two important things I mean are as follows:
- When Do You Need to Do Ghusl?
a. When Do Muslim Men Need to Do Ghusl?
b. When Do Muslim Women Need to Do Ghusl? - Does Ghusl Include Washing Hair?
When Do You Need to Do Ghusl?
First important thing about “does ghusl include washing hair?” what I will explain now is “when do you need to do Ghusl?”. I want you to understand that first before you read any further explanations in this article because it is one of the important questions in this discussion that should be well understood.
One important thing I want to say here is that what Ghusl means in this discussion is Ghusl Janabah (غُسْلُ الْجَنَابَةِ).
In general, if we read some Islamic legal literatures, we will find explanations that Ghusl is obligatory for Muslims if they have great hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَكْبَرُ) or Janabah (الْجَنَابَةُ). Great Hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَكْبَرُ) is an impure condition in Muslims that can only be removed with Ghusl.
In Islamic legal literacy, there is a difference between the things that cause Muslim men and Muslim women to have great hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَكْبَرُ) which causes them to perform Ghusl. I’ll explain it in a few paragraphs below:
When Do Muslim Men Need to Do Ghusl?
Now I will explain about “when do Muslim men need to do Ghusl?”. As Muslims, you must understand that because there is a difference between the things that cause Muslim men and Muslim women to do Ghusl.
In short, I would like to say that there are three things that make Muslim men need to do Ghusl. The three things I mean are as follows:
One: if the sperm has come out.
Two: if the penis is stuck to the vagina.
Three: if a Muslim men die.
When Do Muslim Women Need to Do Ghusl?
Now I will explain about “when do Muslim women need to do Ghusl?”. Muslim women must understand that because the things that cause them to need to do Ghusl are more than the things that cause Muslim men to need to do Ghusl.
In short, I want to say that there are six things that make Muslim women need to do Ghusl. The six things I mean are as follows:
One: if the sperm has come out.
Two: if the penis is stuck to the vagina.
Three: if a Muslim woman dies.
Four: if menstruation has finished.
Five: after giving birth.
Six: if the puerperium has been completed.
That’s a brief explanation of “when do you need to do Ghusl?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Does Ghusl Include Washing Hair?
The second important thing about “does ghusl include washing hair?” what I’m going to explain now is a specific answer. So, you should read the explanation below very well.
Before I explain about “does ghusl include washing hair?”, I will quote several hadiths that are specifically related to this discussion. Some of the hadiths I mean are as follows:
From Ali bin Abi Talib radliyallahu anhu, “The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, “Whoever has left the place of hair from janabah, then he will be treated like this and like this in Hell.”
From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu anhu, he said, “Allah’s Messenger sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, “Indeed, under every hair there is a janabah. Wash your hair and clean the skin!” The hadith is narrated by Abu Daud and at-Tirmidhi.
From Aisha radliallahu anha, she said, “if the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam bathes from the janaba, then he begins by washing his hands, then he takes precedence to wash his right hand from the left body then he washed his anus. Then he graduated. Then he took water and put his fingers into the base of the hair. Then he poured three hands of water three times. Then he drained water over all his bodies. Then he washed his hands.” The hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
All readers! If we understand some of the hadiths above, we can conclude that washing hair is obligatory in Ghusl. So, if you ask me “does ghusl include washing hair?”, the answer is “Yes. Ghusl includes washing hair. Washing hair should be done in Ghusl.” That’s the answer!
All readers! That’s a brief explanation of “does ghusl include washing hair?” and some important things about it. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!
