Specifically, there are some important things about “does cat saliva break wudu?” which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:

Cat in Islam

The first important thing about “does cat saliva break wudu?” what I will explain now is cat in Islam. I want you to understand that first before you read any further explanations in this article because that is one of the basic things in this discussion that should be well understood.

There are two hadiths about cat that I would like to quote, and then I will explain their meanings, to explain cat in Islam in general. The two hadiths I am referring to are as follows:

From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "…a woman enters Hell because she binds a cat and does not feed it nor does she let it go so that can eat small animals that are on the ground until it (the cat) dies."

From Abu Qatadah radiyallahu anhu, he (Prophet Muhammad) said about cats; “Actually, it is not unclean. That includes the animals that surround you.” The hadith was narrated by four people (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'I, and Ibn Majah) and Ibn Khuzaimah.

All readers! There are several important things that we can conclude if we understand the hadith about cat above:

  • One: Muslims are strictly prohibited from harming animals. In the first hadith about cat above it is explained that there was a woman who tied a cat and did not feed it until it (it: the cat) died. Later, she will go to Hell because of her actions.
  • Two: in the second hadith about cat above it is explained that the cat's body is not unclean unless there is najis attached to the cat's body. So, Muslims can touch it.

That's a brief explanation of cat in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Does Touching Cat Break Wudu?

The second important point about “does cat saliva break wudu?” what I will explain now is "does touching cat break wudu?". I want you to understand that now because it is one of the important questions in this discussion that must be well understood.

In the previous few paragraphs, I have explained that the cat's body is not unclean unless there is najis attached to the cat's body. The legal status, that the cat's body is not unclean, explains that the cat's body does not break wudu.

But the question is "does touching cat break wudu?". I think we should understand that first before we can understand the answer to the main question in this discussion.

In short, I would like to say that touching a cat does not break wudu. The reason is because the cat's body is sacred unless there is najis in the cat's body.

That's a brief explanation of "does touching cat break wudu?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

Does Cat Saliva Break Wudu?

The third important point about “does cat saliva break wudu?” what I'm going to explain now is a specific answer. So, I really hope you guys read the explanation below very well.

Before I give you a specific answer to that question (does cat saliva break wudu?), firstly, I will explain two important things so that you can understand the main topic in this discussion. Two important things I mean are as follows:

  • Six things that break wudu in Islam.
  • Is cat saliva unclean?

Five Things That Break Wudu in Islam

In simple terms, I want to say that there are five things that can break wudu:

  • One: if something comes out of two holes: the front hole (penis and vagina) and the back hole (anus).

We can find this explanation in the Quranic verse below:

O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. (Al-Maidah: 6).

  • Two: loss of mind due to sleep, madness, and so on.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

From Mu'awiyah radiyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah sallallhu alaihi wa sallam said, "The eye is the anal cord. If two eyes have slept then the string will be untied." The hadith was narrated by Ahmad and ath-Thabrani. He (ath-Thabrani) added (the hadith editor), "Whoever has been sleeping, let him perform wudu."
  • Three: if the skin of a man and a woman who is not a mahram touch each other without a barrier.

We can find this explanation in the following Quranic verse:

Or you touch a girl. (Al-Maidah: 6).

  • Four: touching the human penis, vagina, or anus using the palms of the hands or the inside of the fingers.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

Whoever holds his penis, let him perform wudu.

  • Five: vomiting and nosebleeds.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

From Aisha radiyallahu anha, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, "Whoever is exposed to vomiting, nosebleeds (blood coming from the nose), qalas (fluid that comes from the throat that fills the mouth or other things but it is not vomit) or madhiy, then he should perform wudu and then continue his prayer as long as he does not speak." This hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah.

Is Cat Saliva Unclean?

Now I will explain to you about “is cat saliva unclean?”. I will quote a hadith about animal saliva which is permissible for Muslims to eat or the saliva of a clean animal. The hadith I mean is as follows:

From Umar bin Kharijah radiyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam once addressed us in Mina. He was on top of the animal that became his vehicle. The animal's saliva dripped down my shoulder." The hadith was narrated by Ahmad and at-Tirmidhi.

All readers! In the above hadith it is explained that the saliva of animals whose meat is permissible to eat is clean. What is meant by animals whose meat can be eaten are clean animals. The legal status of the saliva also includes the law of sweat. That is with a note that the fluid does not come from the stomach, it may come from the skin or mouth.

Now, if you ask me, "is cat saliva unclean?", the answer is "No." The reason is because the cat's body is clean as I explained earlier.

Now, if you ask me, "does cat saliva break wudu?", the answer is "No, because cat saliva is holy, not unclean." That's the answer.

All readers! That's a brief explanation of "does cat saliva break wudu?" and some important things about it. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!

I think that's enough for this article. May be useful. Amen.

See you again in the next article!
