Does Being Sick Break Wudu? Read This!

Does Being Sick Break Wudu?

Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation of “does being sick break wudu?”? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That's why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!

does being sick break wudu, break wudu, wudu,

Specifically, there are three important things about “does being sick break wudu?” which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:

Sick in Islam

The first important thing about “does being sick break wudu?” what I will explain now is sick in Islam. I want you to understand that first before you read any further explanations in this article because that is one of the basic things in this discussion that should be well understood.

Before I explain about sick in Islam, I will quote a hadith about illness. The hadith about sickness that I mean is as follows:

No Muslim is afflicted with hurt caused by disease or some other inconvenience, but that Allah will remove his sins as a tree sheds its leaves.

A believer does not receive (the trouble) of running a thorn or more than that but Allah elevates him in rank or effaces his sins because of that.

No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.

Trials will not cease afflicting the believing man and the believing woman in their self, children, and wealth, until they meet Allah without having any sin.

All readers! If we understand some of the hadiths about sickness above, we can conclude that sick in Islam is one of Allah's blessings given to Muslims. If they are sick and patient, they will be greatly rewarded and Allah will forgive their sins.

That's a brief explanation of sick in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Things That Break Wudu According to Sharia

The second important thing about “does being sick break wudu?” what I will explain now is things that break wudu according to Sharia. I want you to understand all of that now because they are some of the important points in this discussion that must be well understood.

In simple terms, I want to say that there are six things that can break wudu:

  • If something comes out of two holes: the front hole (penis and vagina) and the back hole (anus).

We can find this explanation in the Quranic verse below:

O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. (Al-Maidah: 6).

  • Loss of mind due to sleep, madness, and so on.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

From Mu'awiyah radiyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah sallallhu alaihi wa sallam said, "The eye is the anal cord. If two eyes have slept then the string will be untied." The hadith was narrated by Ahmad and ath-Thabrani. He (ath-Thabrani) added (the hadith editor), "Whoever has been sleeping, let him perform wudu."

  • If the skin of a man and a woman who is not a mahram touch each other without a barrier.

We can find this explanation in the following Quranic verse:

Or you touch a girl. (Al-Maidah: 6).

  • Touching the human penis, vagina, or anus using the palms of the hands or the inside of the fingers.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

Whoever holds his penis, let him perform wudu.

  • Vomiting and nosebleeds.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

From Aisha radiyallahu anha, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, "Whoever is exposed to vomiting, nosebleeds (blood coming from the nose), qalas (fluid that comes from the throat that fills the mouth or other things but it is not vomit) or madhiy, then he should perform wudu and then continue his prayer as long as he does not speak." This hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah.

That is a brief explanation of things that break wudu according to Sharia. As Muslims, we must understand that.
