Specifically, there are three important things about “do you have to have wudu to read Surah Yaseen?” which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:

When Do You Have to Have Wudu?

The first important thing about “do you have to have wudu to read Surah Yaseen?” what I will explain now is "when do you have to have wudu?". I want you to understand that first before you read any further explanation in this article because that is the basic question in this discussion that should be well understood.

I think you already understand that wudu is a way to get rid of small hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَصْغَرُ). Wudu is the most important way. If we cannot perform wudu to remove small hadas, we have to perform Tayammum.

I think you also understand that small hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَصْغَرُ) is one of the conditions that prevent Muslims from performing certain acts of worship that require them to be in a holy condition while doing it all. The other condition is big hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَكْبَرُ). Small hadas can be removed by wudu and Tayammum. While big hadas can only be removed with ghusl Janabah.

In other words, wudu is very important in Islam. Even Muslims are prohibited from praying if they do not have wudu. We can find this explanation in the verses of the Quran and some of the hadiths below:

O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. (Al-Maidah [5]: 6).

From Ali bin Thalq radliyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) has said, "If one of you has emitted a soundless wind from his anus while praying (salat), then let him go out and perform wudu, then repeat the prayer (salat)." The hadith was narrated by five people (Ahmad, Abu Daud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah).

From 'Abbad bin Tamim, from his uncle, that there was once a man who complained to the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, that he hesitated as if he found something (fart) in his prayer (salat). He then said, "He must not move or leave until he hears the voice or smells the smell."

From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Allah does not accept someone's prayer from you if he has hadas (small hadas) until he performs wudu." This hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "If one of you finds something in his stomach, then he doubts whether something has come out of him or not? So, he is not allowed to leave the mosque until he hears a sound or smells an aroma." This hadith was narrated by Muslim.

The point is that wudu is something very important in Islam.

Now, if you ask me, “when do you have to have wudu?”, the answer is as follows:

  1. If you have a small hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَصْغَرُ) and will going to pray (salat).
  2. If you have a small hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَصْغَرُ) and will going to perform Tawaf.
  3. If you have a small hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَصْغَرُ) and will touch the Quran or Mushaf. Surah Yaseen is a part of the Quran.

That's a brief explanation of "when do you have to have wudu?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

Do You Have to Have Wudu to Read Surah Yaseen?

The second important thing about “do you have to have wudu to read Surah Yaseen?” what I will explain now is a specific explanation. So, I really hope you read the explanation below very well.

In the previous few paragraphs, I have explained that if you have a small hadas (الحَدَثُ الأَصْغَرُ) and you are about to touch the Quran or Mushaf (Surah Yaseen is a part of the Quran or Mushaf), you have to have wudu first.

But one important thing I have to make clear here and you should always keep in mind is that there is a big difference between touching the Quran or Mushaf and reading the Quran or Mushaf. The differences are as follows:

  1. Touching the Quran or Mushaf does not mean reading the Quran or the Mushaf.
  2. Reading the Quran or Mushaf can be done without touching the Quran or the Mushaf.

So, if you ask me, "do you have to have wudu to read Surah Yaseen?", the answer is as follows:

  1. You can read Surah Yaseen without wudu if you don't touch the Quran or the Mushaf.
  2. You cannot recite Surah Yaseen without wudu if you touch the Quran or the Mushaf.

That's a short explanation of "do you have to have wudu to read Surah Yaseen?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

Ethics Before and During Reading Surah Yaseen

The third important thing about “do you have to have wudu to read Surah Yaseen?” what I will explain now is ethics before and during reading Surah Yaseen. I want you to understand all of that at the end of this discussion because they are all important things about reading Surah Yaseen that must be understood well.

Specifically, there are two ethics before and during reading Surah Yaseen:

  • We must be in a holy state or have wudu before and during reading Surah Yaseen.

Having wudu or being in a holy state before and during reading Surah Yaseen is the first ethic of reading Surah Yaseen. It is true that we can recite Surah Yaseen without wudu if we do not touch the Quran or its Mushaf. But it would be better if we have wudu before and during reading Surah Yaseen because Surah Yaseen is a part of Quran.

  • Covering the aurat before and during reading Surah Yaseen.

The second ethic of reading Surah Yaseen is covering the aurat before and during reading Surah Yaseen. Aurat is a part of the Muslim body that must be covered. If you are a man, then your aurat is that part of your body from the navel to the two knees. If you are a woman, then your aurat is all of your body except for the two palms and the face (there is a difference of opinion regarding the female aurat).

That is a brief explanation of ethics before and during reading Surah Yaseen. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Questions and Answers You May Be Looking For
