Sharia / Islamic Rules / Is Dying Your Hair Haram

Category: Is Dying Your Hair Haram

Is Dying Your Hair Haram ~ Dyeing your hair is not haram in Islam. You can dye your hair to your natural color but avoid black. Use only halal hair dye colors that look like natural human hair such as brown, dark brown, blonde etc. Majority of the scholars of Islam consider it haram to dye hair black based on the hadith of the Prophet.

Halal hair dye simply means there are no ingredients in it that comes from animals. It still has alcohol. Therefore, be mindful of the type of dye when choosing a hair colour.

Prophet Muhammad (SAWW)’s lifestyle is the way Muslims should maintain their affairs. The Prophet used to dye his hair and beard with henna/katam (plants used to dye hair).
