Solar Eclipse Prayer and Lunar Eclipse Prayer in Islam ~ Salat ul-Kusuf (Arabic: صلاة الكسوف) is a prayer offered during a solar eclipse; Salat ul-Khusuf (Arabic: صلاة الخسوف) is performed during a lunar eclipse. They are both Nafl (non-obligatory) with two rakat prayers that should be performed by the Muslim community in congregation.
Recite the Fatiha quietly or in your head when the eclipse starts. As with any other prayer, read or recite the opening chapter of the Qur’an. Make sure your voice is extremely quiet, especially if you’re in a Mosque. You should begin praying as soon as the eclipse begins.
Prophet Mohammed himself, during the lunar eclipse, instructs people of Islam to recite Namaz. They say that during the lunar eclipse, Muslims should go to the mosque and sit together and offer Namaz. This Namaz, which is recited during the lunar eclipse, is called ‘Salat al Qusuf’.
