SIWAK or miswak is a natural tooth brush prepared from the roots or branches of various trees and bushes.
The miswak (miswaak, siwak, sewak, Arabic: سواك or مسواك) is a teeth cleaning twig made from the Salvadora persica tree (known as arak, أراك, in Arabic).
The siwak or miswak (pi. masdwik) is often mentioned as a symbol for the emphasis given in medieval Islam to dental health.
Dental hygiene, and in particular the use of the small toothbrush called in Arabic siwak or miswak, was the subject of a number of monographs.
