Ablution Wudu
Wudu in Islam. Wudu is a ritual that is very familiar to Muslims. In some cases, wudu is obligatory for Muslims. But in other conditions, wudu is a recommendation for them. There are many important things about wudu that they must understand.
Now I will explain four important and general things about wudu. The four things I mean are as follows:
1. Wudu in Islam.
2. When Should You Perform Wudu?
3. When Are You Recommended to Perform Wudu?
4. Things That Break Wudu.
Wudu in Islam
The first important and general point about wudu that I will explain now is wudu in Islam. I want you to understand that well because there are some Muslims who don’t understand it very well.
In Islam, wudu is one of the conditions for the validity of prayer. What it means is that if a Muslim is going to pray, then he must be in a holy condition or not have minor hadas and major hadas.
Wudu is one way to get rid of minor hadas. Minor hasas is a condition experienced by a person after he urinates, defecates, farts and so on.
If Muslims have minor hadas, then they are not allowed to perform some acts of worship that require them to be in a holy condition, such as praying, tawaf, touching the Quran, and so on.
One important thing that some Muslims may not understand is that wudu is one of the virtues of Muslims. On the Day of Judgment, wudu is a special sign that distinguishes the people of the Prophet Muhammad from the people of other prophets.
Specifically, the Prophet Muhammad explained that on the Day of Judgment later, the bodies of Muslims who are washed and rubbed when they perform wudu will emit a white light.
From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, he said, “I have heard the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam say, “Verily my ummah on the Day of Judgment will come with white light on all members of wudu (the limbs that are washed and rubbed in ablution). from the former wudu. Whoever of you is able to extend his white light, let him do that.” The hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
That is a brief explanation of wudu in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand that.
When Should You Perform Wudu?
The second important and common point about wudu that I will explain now is “when should you perform wudu?”. I want you to understand that because it is one of the important questions about wudu that must be well understood.
In the previous few paragraphs, I have explained that wudu is one way to get rid of minor hadas. If the Muslims have minor hadas, then they are not allowed to perform some acts of worship that require them to be in a holy condition.
So, if you ask me, “when should you perform wudu?”, the answer is when you have a small hadas and you are going to perform acts of worship that require you to be in a pure state. You have to do that. If you don’t do that, then you are not allowed to perform prayers, tawaf, touch the Quran, and so on.
That’s a brief explanation of “when should you perform wudu?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.
When Are You Recommended to Perform Wudu?
The third important and general point about wudu that I will explain now is “when are you recommended to perform wudu?”. I want you to understand that because Muslims are not always required to perform wudu.
In Islam, wudu is not always obligatory for Muslims. Wudu becomes obligatory for them only when they are about to perform acts of worship that require them to be in a holy condition.
So, if you ask me, “when are you recommended to perform wudu?”, the answer is every time. It is recommended that you perform wudu at any time if your wudu is broken. The goal is that you are always in a holy state.
That’s a brief explanation of “when are you recommended to perform wudu?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.
Things That Break Wudu
The fourth important and general point about wudu that I will explain now is things that break wudu. I want you to understand that because it is one of the very important discussions of wudu that must be well understood.
As Muslims we must understand the things that break wudu. The reason is that if we don’t understand that, we don’t know whether we are in a holy state or not. In addition, we also do not understand whether our prayers are valid or not, and so on. If our wudu is broken, the prayer is also broken.
There are many things that break wudu. In general, if we read some Islamic legal literature on wudu, then we will find an explanation that there are six things that can damage wudu:
One: if something comes out of two holes: the front hole (penis and vagina) and the back hole (anus). Examples are urine, feces, blood, madhiy, wadi, and so on.
Two: loss of mind due to sleep, madness, and so on. So, your consciousness is lost due to sleep, madness, etc., you must perform wudu before you perform any worship that requires you to be in a holy state.
Three: if the skin of a man and a woman who is not a mahram touch each other without a barrier.
If you are a man, if you touch a woman who is not your mahram, such as your wife, girlfriend, etc., then your wudu is broken.
Four: touching the human penis, vagina, or anus using the palms of the hands or the inside of the fingers.
Five: touching unclean objects, such as urine, feces, and so on. If you touch them all, then your wudu is broken.
Six: vomiting and nosebleeds. So, if you vomit or nosebleeds, then your wudu is broken.
That’s a brief explanation of things that break wudu. As Muslims, we must understand that.
That’s a brief explanation of wudu and some important things about it. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask.
Hopefully this explanation about wudu is useful. Amen.
