99 Names of Allah
99 Names of Allah (Al Asma Ul Husna)
Names of Allah in Islam (Arabic: أَسْمَاءُ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ʾasmāʾu llāhi l-ḥusnā, “Allah’s Beautiful Names”) are names associated to Allah in Islam by Muslims. While some names are just in the Quran, and others are just in the hadith, there are some names which show up in both.
The first pillar of imaan (belief) in Islam is Belief in Allah. As Muslims, we count on Allah according to His beautiful names and attributes. Allah has exposed His names consistently in the Divine Quran primarily for us to understand that He is. Learning and remembering the names of Allah will help us to determine the correct way to count on Him. There’s absolutely nothing more spiritual and honored compared to understanding the names of Allah and obeying them. How do we anticipate to worship, love, fear and trust our Lord, The Almighty Allah, if we have no idea that He is?
Islamic Mysticism
There’s a custom in Sufism to the effect the 99 names of Allah indicate a magical “Most Supreme and Superior Name” (ismu l-ʾAʿẓam (الاسْمُ ٱلْأَعْظَم).[8] This “Greatest Name of Allah” is said to be “the one which if He is called (prayed to) by it, He will answer.”[9]
Inning accordance with a hadith told by Abdullah ibn Masud, some of the names of Allah have also been hidden from mankind.[10] Greater than 1000 names of Allah are listed in the Jawshan Kabir (جَوْشَنُ ٱلْكَبِير—literally “the Great Cuirass”) invocations.
The prominent Sunni mystic Ibn Arabi (26 July 1165 – 16 November 1240) didn’t translate the names of Allah as simple epithets, but as real attributes paring deep space both in produced and feasible forms. By these names, the magnificent characteristics reveal for people, whose magnificent potential is hidden, can learn how to become a representation of such names. However, such representations are limited; the magnificent characteristics don’t equal the magnificent significance of the names.[11] Affected by the metaphysical teachings of Ibn Arabi, Haydar Amuli designated angels to the various names of Allah. Accordingly, the great angels overall are a symptom of Allah’s Names of Beauty. Evil angels (shayatin) on the various other hand are a symptom of Allah’s Names of grandeur, such as “The Haughty”.
Theophoric Provided Names
The Arabic names of Allah are used to form theophoric provided names commonly used in Muslim societies throughout the globe, mainly in Arabic talking cultures.
Because the names of Allah themselves are reserved to Allah and their use as a person’s provided name is considered consistently unsuitable, theophoric names are formed by prefixing the call ˁabd (عَبْدُ: “slave/slave of”) to the name when it comes to man names;
This difference is established from respect for the sanctity of Magnificent names, which denote attributes (of love, generosity, grace, empathy, justice, power, and so on.) that are thought to be had in a complete and outright sense just by Allah, while humans, being limited animals, are viewed by Muslims as being endowed with the Magnificent attributes just in a restricted and family member capacity. The prefixing of the certain article would certainly indicate that the holder has the corresponding characteristic in an special sense, a characteristic reserved to Allah.
