Can You Repent for Zina?
Hi readers! In this article, I will explain one of the important questions about Zina that is often asked by some Muslims. One important question I mean is "Can you repent for Zina?". I hope that none of us will ever commit Zina. If any of us has ever committed Zina, then let us repent to Allah.
Before I explain the answer to the question, "Can you repent for Zina?", Firstly, I will explain five important things about Zina and how to repent for Zina. The five things I mean are as follows:
Zina and Forgiveness
Zina is one of the major sins according to Islam. That is why Islam strictly prohibits Muslims from committing Zina. One of the great torments for people who commit Zina is that later in Hell their vital organs will emit a very unpleasant odor that can torment them.
I am sure that there is not a single person who has not done anything wrong. Even some people have made very fatal mistakes, such as Zina. Some Muslims have done that. For this reason, for Muslims who have committed Zina, I hope they will regret this act. Repentance for sins is one of the conditions for Allah to accept someone's repentance.
In addition, Muslims who have committed Zina are strongly encouraged to hope that Allah will forgive their sins. They must not stop expecting that, because it is a way for Allah to forgive them.
One thing is certain that all Muslims should not forget: that Allah specifically forbids them from giving up hope of Allah's mercy! Allah is the most merciful and forgiving God. It is not difficult for Allah to forgive all kinds of sins, including Zina.
Hadith About Zina
Now I will explain to you two hadiths about Zina. My goal is for us to always remember that Zina is a very big sin. The two hadiths that I mean are as follows:
If a person commits Zina, then his faith decreases (the light of his faith is lost) as if he is being covered by a cloud (above his head). If he is free from adultery, then that faith will return to him.
Indeed, among the signs of the coming of the Last Day are the knowledge of being lifted up, the amount of ignorance, the drunk of khamr (many people drink khamr), and the openly committed Zina (many people commit Zina openly).
Quran about Zina
Now I will explain to you two Quran verses about Zina. My goal is for us to always remember that Zina is a very big sin. The two Koran that I mean are as follows:
Women who commit Zina and men who commit Zina, then beat each one of them with a hundred strokes. And do not have mercy on both of them in carrying out (the provisions) of Allah's religion, that is, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let (in carrying out) their punishment be witnessed by a group of believers.
And people who do not worship other gods with Allah and do not kill a soul that is forbidden by Allah (kill him) except with the right (reason), and does not commit adultery, whoever does this, surely he will get (retribution) of sin (his). (ie) the punishment will be multiplied for him on the Day of Resurrection and he will be eternal in that punishment, in a state of humiliation, except those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds; then it is their evil that Allah replaced with good. And it is Allah Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Dua for Forgiveness of Zina
Now that we understand some brief explanations of Zina, maybe one thing we should know is a dua for forgiveness of Zina. To be honest, there are many prayers that can be said so that Allah will forgive someone who has committed Zina. One of them is reading Istighfar.
There are many kinds of Istighfar that we can read. One of them is Sayyidul Istighfar. Sayyidul Istighfar is one of the best editors for repentance. The editorial is as follows:
O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me. I am Your servant. I am always in Your promises and I promise You according to my ability. I take refuge in You from the bad things I have done. I acknowledge all the blessings You have done give it to me. I confess my sin. So, forgive me. Truly, no one can forgive all sins except You.
