Can You Pray (Salat) After Adultery (Zina)? ~ Hi all readers! In several previous articles, I have explained some important things about adultery (Zina), such as bathing after adultery (Zina), the legality of masturbating to avoid adultery (Zina) according to Islam, and three important things about adultery (Zina) that we should know. These are all important things we should know about this one of the great sins.

Now, perhaps one of the things that is often on the minds of Muslims who have committed this grave sin is; can they pray (salat) after adultery (Zina)? I guess that is a logical question because a person will feel very guilty if he has sinned.

In relation to the above question, before I explain the answer, I will quote two verses of the Quran and two hadiths that describe sin in general.

Quran and Hadith About Prayer (Salat) After Adultery (Zina)

The two verses of the Quran and the two hadiths that I mean are as follows;

And He it is Who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons the evil deeds and He knows what you do. (Ash-Shuraa [42]; 25).

Do they not know that Allah accepts repentance from His servants and takes the alms, and that Allah is the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful? (At-Taubah [9]; 104).

The two hadiths that explain sin I mean are as follows;

From Abu Hurairah, he said, “Allah’s Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Whoever repents before sunrise to sunset, then Allah must accept his repentance.” This hadith is narrated by Muslim.

From Anas, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “All the descendants of Adam are guilty and the best of those who are guilty are those who repent.” The hadith is narrated by at-Tirmidhi.

Readers all! It is true that the two verses of the Quran and the two hadiths above do not specifically talk about adultery (Zina), but about repentance. Even so, we know that adultery (Zina) is a grave sin that we must avoid. And, if a Muslim has done that, then he must repent.

Regarding with the question above, “Are they allowed to pray after adultery (Zina)?”, Of course the answer is “yes”, even they are strongly encouraged to always perform obligatory prayers, such as Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isa, Fajr, and prayers. sunnah (recommended), such as Tahajud, Witr, Dhuha, and so on, especially Taubat prayer. Repentance Prayer is very important because it is a proof of someone’s seriousness to erase the sins he has committed.

We can perform this Taubat prayer like any other prayer. It’s just that the number of rakats is two. But we can do that several times a day. The more often we do that, the better it will be for us.

The intentions to perform the Taubat prayer are as follows;

I intend to perform sunnah prayer repenting two rak’ahs because of Allah Taala.

After performing the Taubat prayer, we are strongly encouraged to read as much Istighfar and Salawat as possible. I think you already know why reading Istighfar is very important to wash away sins. I won’t talk much about that again here. As for the reason why reading Salawat is very important to wash away sins, to be honest, Salawat is one of the prayers that we should read every day, especially on Fridays.

We can find the virtue of reciting Salawat on Friday in some of the hadiths below;
