Specifically, there are some important things about “can music break wudu?” which I will explain in this article. Some important things I mean are as follows:

Is Music Allowed in Islam?

The first important thing about “can music break wudu?” what I will explain now is "is music allowed in Islam?". I want you to understand that first before you read any further explanations in this article because that is one of the important questions in this discussion that should be well understood.

In general, if we read some Islamic legal literature on music, we will find two differences of opinion:

  • some Islamic jurists say that music is haram. In general, they use the following verses of the Quran and hadith as the basis for their opinion:

And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment. (Luqman [31]: 6).

The hadith I mean is as follows:

Indeed, there will be some of my Ummah who will justify zina, silk, liquor (al-Khamr), and musical instruments.

  • Some Islamic jurists say that music is halal. One of the bases of their opinion is the hadith below:

From Abu Hurairah radliyallaahu anhu, that Umar radliyallahu anhu met Hassan who was developing (poetry) in the mosque. He then looked at Hassan with a denying view. Hassan then said, "I have developed (poetry) in it (mosque). In it there is someone who is better than you. "The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Now, I would like to say that there is a difference of opinion about the legality of music in Islam. You can choose one of them as the basis for your opinion, but you can't blame other people who have different opinions with you.

Personally, I prefer the opinion that music is allowed in Islam.

That's a brief explanation of "is music allowed in Islam?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

Can Music Break Wudu?

The second important thing about “can music break wudu?” what I'm going to explain now is a specific answer. So, I really hope you read the explanation below very well.

Before I explain the answer to the question, I think it would be better if you understand the things that break wudu. The goal is for you to understand the main topic in this discussion.

The explanation of the things that break wudu are as follows:

Five Things That Break Wudu

In general, if we read some Islamic legal literature on wudu, then we will find an explanation that there are six things that can break wudu:

  • If something comes out of two holes: the front hole (penis and vagina) and the back hole (anus).

We can find this explanation in the Quranic verse below:

O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it. Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful. (Al-Maidah: 6).

  • Loss of mind due to sleep, madness, and so on.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

From Mu'awiyah radiyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah sallallhu alaihi wa sallam said, "The eye is the anal cord. If two eyes have slept then the string will be untied." The hadith was narrated by Ahmad and ath-Thabrani. He (ath-Thabrani) added (the hadith editor), "Whoever has been sleeping, let him perform wudu."

  • If the skin of a man and a woman who is not a mahram touch each other without a barrier.

We can find this explanation in the following Quranic verse:

Or you touch a girl. (Al-Maidah: 6).

  • Touching the human penis, vagina, or anus using the palms of the hands or the inside of the fingers.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

Whoever holds his penis, let him perform wudu.

  • Vomiting and nosebleeds.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

From Aisha radiyallahu anha, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, "Whoever is exposed to vomiting, nosebleeds (blood coming from the nose), qalas (fluid that comes from the throat that fills the mouth or other things but it is not vomit) or madhiy, then he should perform wudu and then continue his prayer as long as he does not speak." This hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah.

That's a brief explanation of things that break wudu. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Now, if you ask me, “can music break wudu?”, the answer is “No. Music doesn't break wudu." That's the answer.
