Can I Pray Before the Time in Islam?

The first important thing about “can I pray Dhuhr before the time?” what I will explain now is “can I pray before the time in Islam?”. I want you to understand that first before you read any further explanations in this article because that is one of the important questions in this discussion that should be well understood.

In general, praying before the time is something that is permissible in Islam. But what we have to understand is that it cannot be done under normal conditions and there are certain rules that must be understood.

In Islamic legal literacy, prayer before the time is called the Jama prayer (صَلَاةُ الجَمْعِ) or a combination of two obligatory prayers. There are two types of Jama prayers: Jama Taqdeem (جَمْعُ التَّقْدِيْمِ) and Jama Takheer (جَمْعُ التَّأْخِيْرِ). The prayer before the time is the Jama Taqdeem prayer (جَمْعُ التَّقْدِيْمِ) or performing the two obligatory prayers at the time of the first prayer.

For example, if we want to combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers with Jama Taqdeem (جَمْعُ التَّقْدِيْمِ), we have to do it at the time of the Dhuhr prayer. So, we do the Asr prayer before the time. This is one example of praying prematurely in Islam.

So, if you ask me, “can I pray before the time in Islam?”, the answer is “Yes, if you are in a condition that allows you to pray Jama Taqdeem (جَمْعُ التَّقْدِيْمِ).”

The conditions for performing prayers before their time or Jama Taqdeem (جَمْعُ التَّقْدِيْمِ) are as follows:

One: tartib. The point is to do the first prayer first. For example, do Dhuhr first. After that do the Asr prayer.

Two: the intention to perform the Jama prayer in the first prayer.

Three: Muwalat (sequentially). The point is that the two prayers are not separated for long. So, after the first prayer, you must immediately take Takbiratul Ihram for the second prayer.

Four: when performing the second prayer, still on the way, even though the journey does not reach Masafatul Qasr (a journey that allows Muslims to pray Qasr).

There are a few things you should do if you want to pray early:

One: you must cleanse yourselves of minor hadas and major hadas.

Two: you must wear clothes that are holy for prayer.

Three: you must find a holy place for prayer.

Four: you have to say niyyat for Jama Taqdeem in the first prayer. The niyyat is as follows:

أُصَلِّى فَرْضَ الظُّهْرِ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ مَجْمُوْعًا بِالْعَصْرِ جَمْعَ تَقْدِيْمٍ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

I intend to perform the four rak’ahs of Dhuhr prayer by combining Asr prayer, in Jama Taqdeem, because of Allah Taala.

That’s a brief explanation of “can I pray before the time in Islam?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.
