Differences in Purifying Clothes Affected by Baby Boy Urine and Baby Girl Urine ~ Hi all readers! In this article, I will discuss the differences in how to purify the clothes that are exposed to the urine of the baby boy and the urine of the baby girl. In the previous article I said that urine is unclean based on the hadith below:

إِنَّمَا تَغْسِلُ ثَوْبَكَ مِنَ الْغَائِطِ وَالْبَوْلِ وَالْمَنِيِّ وَالدَّمِ وَالْقَيْئِ

Actually, you have to wash your clothes from feces, urine, sperm, blood, and vomit.

But one thing we need to know, is that there are different ways to purify clothes that are exposed to the urine of baby boy and the urine of baby girl.

There is one hadith of the Prophet Muhammad that specifically explains the differences in the way it is. The hadith that I mean is as follows;

عَنْ أَبِيْ الْسَمْحِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يُغْسَلُ مِنْ بَوْلِ الْجَارِيَةِ وَيُرَشُّ مِنْ بَوْلِ الْغُلَامِ . أَخْرَجَهُ أَبُوْ دَاوُدَ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ

From Abu as-Samh radliyallahu anhu, he said, “The Messenger of Allah alaihi wa sallam said, “The urine of the baby girl is washed, while the urine of the baby boy is sprinkled.” The hadith is narrated by Abu Daud and an-Nasa’i.

Brother, reader! Islam really knows that humans love babies. This is evidenced by the frequent use of their babies. But the problem is sometimes our baby is urinating. Not infrequently it is very disturbing to us.

In Islamic teachings, as explained in the hadith above, there are differences in how to purify their urine. How to purify clothes that are exposed to the urine of a baby girl is washed. While the way to purify clothes that are exposed to the urine of a male baby is to sprinkle water on it.

For example, if our clothes are exposed to the urine of a baby girl, then we have to water the clothes. Remember! His clothes were watered first to be unclean due to the urine disappearing. But if our clothes are exposed to the urine of a baby boy, then we just have to splash water on it, the water doesn't have to flow.

The difference in this method arises because the smell of their urine is also different; the smell of urine of a baby girl is more urine than the smell of urine of a baby boy. But there are differences of opinion among experts about that. There are even people who say that is different because people at that time preferred to carry a baby boy than a baby girl. There are also those who say that it is sincerity to follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.

Besides there are differences of opinion about reasons among experts in Islamic law, among them there are also differences of opinion about how to purify it;

• Ahmad and Ash-Shafi’i said, “How to purify clothes that are exposed to the urine of the baby boy is lightened, water is sprinkled on it, as long as the baby has not eaten food other than breast milk.”
• Abu Hanifah and (famous opinion from) Malik said, “How to purify clothes that are exposed to the urine of the baby boy and girl baby are the same; washed.”

I need to emphasize here, that they agreed that the baby’s urine was unclean. I did not find a difference of opinion between them in this matter. One more thing, for those who distinguish ways of purifying, what is meant by a baby boy in that context is a baby boy whose age has not reached two years and has not eaten anything except breast milk.

Thus, if there is a baby boy who has eaten other foods, such as honey, even though he is not yet two years old, if our clothes are exposed to his urine, then how to purify the clothes is to be washed, not sprinkled with water.
