Because that’s what I’m going to explain now. As Muslims, we must understand that. So, you must read this article to the end.

Specifically, there are four important points about “at what age do Muslim wear hijab?” which I will explain in this article. The four important things I mean are as follows:

  1. What Is Hijab?
  2. Hijab in Islam.
  3. Benefits of Wearing Hijab for Muslim Women.
  4. At What Age Do Muslim Wear Hijab?

What Is Hijab?

The first important thing about “at what age do Muslim wear hijab?” what I will explain now is “what is hijab?”. I want you to understand that because it is the basic thing that you should understand before you read any further explanation in this article.

“Hijab” is an Arabic word. The writing is حِجَابٌ. It means a barrier. So, linguistically, hijab is something that blocks one thing from another.

Linguistically, we can find the meaning of the word “hijab” in the Quran below:

O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without seeking to remain for conversation. Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of [dismissing] you. But Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not [conceivable or lawful] for you to harm the Messenger of Allah or to marry his wives after him, ever. Indeed, that would be in the sight of Allah an enormity. (Al-Ahzab [33]; 53).

That’s a brief explanation of “what is hijab?”. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Hijab in Islam

The second important point is “at what age do Muslim wear hijab?” what I will explain now is “hijab in Islam”. I want you to understand that because it is one of the basic things that must be well understood in this discussion.

On the discussion about “what is hijab?” I have already explained that the hijab is something that gets in the way. In Islam, in general, hijab is understood as something that covers the nakedness of Muslims. In general, it relates to Muslim women.

So, in relation to Muslim women, the hijab is something that covers their aurat. Thus, it is clothing.

In general, in Islamic law, a woman’s aurat is her entire body except the two palms and the face. While the aurat of men is the part of the body between the navel and the two knees.

In Islam, Muslim women are required to wear the hijab to cover their aurat. We can find an explanation of that in the two verses of the Quran below:

O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful. (Al-Ahzab [33]; 59).

And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed. (An-Nur [24]; 31).

That is a brief explanation of “hijab in Islam”. As Muslims, we must understand that.
