From Umar bin Khattab radliyallahu anhu. He said, "While we were sitting with Allah’s Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam one day, suddenly a man who was wearing very white clothes and very black hair came to us. We did not see the shadow beneath him, until he drew near to the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. He then leaned his knees on his (Prophet Muhammad’s) knees and placed his two hands on his (Prophet Muhammad) thighs. Then he said, "O Muhammad, tell me about Islam: what is Islam?" He (Prophet Muhammad) replied, "(Islam is) you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, you perform prayers, you pay Zakat, you fast in Ramadan, and you perform Hajj if you are able to do so."
