عَنْ جَابِرٍ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : تَزَوّجْتُ امْرَأَةً فِي عَهْدِ رَسُوْلِ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَقِيتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : يَاجَابِرُ تَزَوّجْتَ ؟ قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ. قَالَ : بِكْرٌ أَمْ ثَيّبٌ ؟" قُلْتُ : ثَيِّبٌ. قَالَ : فَهَلاّ بِكْراً تُلاَعِبُهَا ؟ قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُوْلَ اللّهِ ! إِنَّ لِيْ أَخَوَاتٍ. فَخَشِيْتُ أَنْ تَدْخُلَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُنَّ. قَالَ : فَذَاكَ إِذَنْ. إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ تُنْكَحُ عَلَىَ دِيْنِهَا ، وَمَالِهَا ، وَجَمَالِهَا. فَعَلَيْكَ بِذَاتِ الدّينِ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكَ

English Translation:

From Jabir bin Abdillah (radliyallahu anhuma), he said:

"I got married during the time of the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. I then met the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, and he asked, 'Are you married?' I replied, 'Yes.' He then asked, 'A virgin or a widow?' I replied, 'A widow.' He asked, 'Why did you not marry a virgin so you could play with her?' I replied, 'O Messenger of Allah! I have several sisters, and I was afraid that she might come between me and them.' The Prophet then said, 'That is fine. Indeed, women are married for their religion, wealth, and beauty. Give priority to a woman with strong religious commitment so that you may be successful.'"
