That is the difference of opinion about whether women can perform Umrah and Hajj without their husbands or Mahrams. As Muslims, we must understand that. That's why I wrote this article. So, you have to read it to the end.

Specifically, there are two important things about “can wife go to Umrah without husband?” which I will explain in this article. Two important things I mean are as follows:

Umrah and Wife in Islam

The first important thing about “can wife go to Umrah without husband?” what I will explain now is the correlation between Umrah and wife in Islam. Specifically, now in this section I will explain the status of Umrah (is it obligatory or not?) and its importance in Islam. After that I will explain the correlation between Umrah and Muslim women, or wives in the focus of this discussion.

We can find an explanation of the status of Umrah (is it obligatory or not?) in its primacy in Islam in the two hadiths below:

From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu ‘anhu, that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "One Umrah to other Umrah is the penance of sin which exists between the two. There is no other reward for Hajj Mabrur except only Heaven.” The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

From Jabir bin Abdillah radliyallahu anhuma, he said, "There is a Bedouin who has come to the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and said," O Messenger of Allah, tell me about Umrah, is it obligatory or not? "He said, "No. But if you do Umrah, then it's good for you.” The hadith was narrated by Ahmad and at-Tirmidhi.

All readers! If we understand the two hadiths above, then we can conclude several things as follows:

  • Umrah is one of the recommended rituals in Islam. It is not an obligation for Muslims. So, if they don't do that, then they're not sinning.
  • Umrah is one of the rituals for removing sins in Islam. That is one of the virtues of Umrah.

Wife Go to Umrah Without Husband in Islam

As for the second important point about "can wife go to Umrah without husband in Islam?" that I will explain here is a specific answer. There is one hadith that we can use as the basis for an argument to answer this question. The hadith I mean is as follows:

From Ibn Abbas radliyallahu anhu, he said, "I have heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam preaching. He said, "Really, men shouldn't be alone with women in a quiet place, unless the woman is with the man who becomes her mahram. Women cannot travel except with men who are mahram. " There was a man standing up and then saying, "O Messenger of Allah, verily my wife went to perform the Hajj and really I was required to do this war and this war." He said, "Go and do the Hajj with your wife." The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

All readers! This hadith does not specifically explain Umrah. The hadith describes Hajj. In the hadith it is explained that there was a wife who went for Hajj without husband. Prophet Muhammad then ordered his husband to go with his wife to perform Hajj together.

One important thing I want to explain here is that in Islamic legal literacy, the Prophet Muhammad's command to his husband that he perform Hajj with his wife is a recommendation. The meaning is that a wife is encouraged to perform Hajj with her husband or mahram. So, if a wife performs Hajj without her husband, then her Hajj is still valid. The meaning is that she can do that.

Then, can wife go for Umrah without husband?

One important thing we must understand is that Hajj is an obligation for Muslims who are able to do it, while Umrah is a recommendation. The conclusion is that if a wife can go to Hajj without husband, then she can go to Umrah without husband. That's the answer.

All readers! That is a brief explanation of "can wife go to Umrah without husband?". Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask.

I think that's enough for this article. May be useful. Amen.

See you again in the next article!
