In general, there are three types of clothes that are Haram in Islam:
Clothes that do not cover aurat
The first type of clothes that are Haram in Islam is clothes that does not cover the aurat. Actually, Muslims are allowed to wear this type of clothing, but it should not be done in front of many people. Why? The answer is that Muslims must cover their aurat when meeting other people, except when meeting their mahram, husband and wife.In several previous articles I have explained the aurat for Muslim men and Muslim women. The second type of clothes that are Haram in Islam is clothes that is stolen. In Islam, stealing is one of the things that is haram. All loot is haram. So, if someone steals clothes, then the clothes should not be worn.
Clothes made of silk is forbidden for Muslim men
The third type of clothes that are Haram in Islam is clothing made of silk. But the ban is only for Muslim men. Muslim women can wear clothes made of silk.
We can find an explanation that Muslim men are prohibited from wearing such clothes of silk in the two hadiths below:
From Hudzaifah bin al-Yaman radliyallahu anhuma, he said, "Verily the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam forbade us to wear silk and Dibaj (a type of silk), drink in a container made of gold and silver. He (Prophet Muhammad) said, "That is all for them in this world and for you in the hereafter." This hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
From Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Wearing silk and gold is forbidden for my Ummah who are men and allowed for women."
