Niyyat for Ghusl (Janabah Bath)
Niyyat for Ghusl Janabah (Janabah Bath) ~ Hi all readers! Do you know what Ghusl Janabah (غَسْلُ الْجَنَابَةِ) is? That is one of the rituals in Islam that must be performed by people who have large hadas. The ritual is in the form of a bath with certain procedures and with certain intentions.
While the great hadas are conditions when someone has done something or experienced a condition, such as having done sex, masturbation until the sperm comes out, and so forth. In such conditions, he is required to purify himself by doing ghusl janabah or janabah bath.
Maybe now you ask, why does someone who has a large hadas must cleanse himself by doing ghusl janabah or janabah bath? Is that not enough to do ablution (wudu)?
I need to remind you again, that in Islamic teachings there are two types of hadas; small hadas and large hadas. Examples of small hadas are conditions when someone has defecated, urinated, was unclean, and so forth. While examples of large hadas are conditions when someone has had sex, sperm comes out, menstruation has finished (for women), and so on.
If someone has a small hadas, then he must perform ablution. But if someone has a large hadas, then he must do ghusl janabah or janabah bath. So, ghusl janabah or janabah bath is done to eliminate large hadas.
One other important thing that I want to remind you all of, before I explain niyyat to ghsul janabah or janabah bath, is that if a person does not purify himself from small and large hadas, then he may not perform some rituals in Islam, such as prayer, touching the quran, and so on. That is the consequence.
The niyyat (intention) for ghusl janabah or janabah bath is as follows;
نَوَيْتُ الْغُسْلَ لِرَفْعِ الْحَدَثِ الْأَكْبَرِ فَرْضًا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى
I intend to take a bath to eliminate the great hadas, as an obligation, because Allah Taala.
You all must remember, that someone who will do ghusl janabah or janabah bath must say the sentence before he splashes water on his body. The intention is what distinguishes the status of bathing which he did with regular bathing.
