Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation about “is it necessary to wash hair after intercourse in Islam?”? If your answer is "Yes", congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That's why I wrote this article. So, you have to read it to the end.

Specifically, there are four important points about “is it necessary to wash hair after intercourse in Islam?” which I will explain in this article. The four important things I mean are as follows:

The Virtue of Intercourse in Islam

The first important thing about “is it necessary to wash hair after intercourse in Islam?” what I will explain now is the virtue of intercourse in Islam. I want you to understand that before you read any further explanation in this article because it is one of the important things about our topic that some Muslims don't understand very well.

One important thing I want to say before I explain more about the virtue of intercourse in Islam is that what is meant by intercourse in this discussion is "halal intercourse".

Halal intercourse is intercourse which is permissible in Islam. In other words, it is done by a husband and wife who are married according to Islamic law. In several previous articles, I have explained a few things about it. So, I will not explain that again here.

In fact, there are many virtues of intercourse in Islam. One example is that it can add to the harmony in a marriage. Of course, it is very important for everyone who is married.

But the virtue of intercourse in Islam that I want to explain here is that it is sunnah. The point is that the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam strongly encouraged Muslims to get married and have intercourse. The goal is for them to have children. In fact, specifically, he will show the large number of Muslims to mankind on the Day of Resurrection.

We can find this explanation in the hadith below:

تَنَاكَحُوْا تَنَاسَلُوْا فَإِنِّيْ مُبَاهٍ بِكُمُ الْأُمَمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

Get married and have many children, because I will show you to mankind on the Day of Resurrection.

So, we can conclude that intercourse in Islam can make Prophet Muhammad proud on the Day of Judgment because the number of Muslims will be very large because of it.

That is a brief explanation of the virtue of intercourse in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand that.

What Happens to You After Intercourse in Islam?

The second important thing about “is it necessary to wash hair after intercourse in Islam?” what I will explain now is “what happens to you after intercourse in Islam?”. I want you to understand that because the condition of Muslims who have intercourse is different from people who have not had intercourse, except for those whose sperm has come out.

In Islam, people who have intercourse have a big hadas. Hadas is a certain condition experienced by a person because he has done something. A person in this condition is strictly prohibited from carrying out all the obligations and recommendations that require him to be in a holy condition if he wants to do it all, such as praying, Tawaf, touching the Quran, and so on.

There are two types of hadas: major hadas and minor hadas.

People who have great hadas are called "junub". What it means is that if Muslims have major hadas or janabah or are in a state of junub, then they are not allowed to perform these rituals if they have not cleansed themselves from major hadas. That is the influence of janabah on Muslims. That is the effect of intercourse in Islam on Muslims.

That's a brief explanation of "what happens to you after intercourse in Islam?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

What Should You Do After Intercourse in Islam?

The third important thing about “is it necessary to wash hair after intercourse in Islam?” what I will explain now is "what should you do after intercourse in Islam?". I want you to understand that so you know what to do after intercourse.

In the previous discussion I have said, that someone is in a state of junub or has great hadas after he has intercourse. In Islam, if a Muslim has a big hadas, then he must perform a janabah bath.

So, what you have to do after intercourse in Islam is to take a janabah bath.

Janabah bath is a bath that is done with the intention to remove major hadas and wash all the body. In the Janabah bath, there should not be any part of the body that is not washed with water. That is the Janabah bath in Islam.

We can find an explanation that a Muslim who has intercourse is required to perform a janabah bath in the two hadiths below:

عَنْ عَلِيٍّ بْنِ أَبِيْ طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ تَرَكَ مَوْضِعَ شَعْرَةٍ مِنْ جَنَابَةٍ فُعِلَ بِهَا كَذَا وَكَذَا فِيْ النَّارِ

From Ali bin Abi Talib radliyallahu anhu, "The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, "Whoever has left the place of hair from janabah, then he will be treated like this and like this in Hell."

From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu anhu, he said, "Allah's Messenger sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, "Indeed, under every hair there is a janabah. Wash your hair and clean the skin!" The hadith is narrated by Abu Daud and at-Tirmidhi.

In Islam, the janabah bath has several benefits:

  • One: janabah bath can cleanse major hadas.

Bathing janabah can clean big hadas. In fact, that is the main purpose of the janabah bath.

  • Two: janabah bath increases the reward.

Bathing janabah can increase the reward. The point is that the Muslims who do the Janabah bath will get a reward because it is one of the teachings of Islam. So, if they carry out Islamic orders to them, then they will get a reward. In other words, their reward will increase.

  • Three: janabah bath can be proof of obedience to Islam.

Performing the Janabah bath is proof of obedience to Islam. The point is that if bathing in Janabah is an obligation for Muslims who have great hadas, and if they do that, following the Islamic commandment to perform bathing in Janabah, then it is proof of their obedience to Islam.

That's a brief explanation of "what should you do after intercourse in Islam?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

Is It Necessary to Wash Hair After Intercourse in Islam?

The fourth important thing about “is it necessary to wash hair after intercourse in Islam?” what I will explain now is "is it necessary to wash your hair after intercourse in Islam?". I want you to understand that because it is the focus of our discussion and one of the important questions about “what to do after intercourse in Islam?”.

In the previous discussion I have said, that a Muslim must do the Janabah bath because he has a big hadas after intercourse. One rule, janabah bath must be done by washing all the body, including hair. In fact, in the two hadiths that I have quoted previously it is explained that hair is one of the parts of the body that must be washed in the janabah bath.

We can also find an explanation that the hair must be washed after intercourse in Islam in the hadith below:

From Aisha radliallahu anha, she said, "if the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam bathes from the janaba, then he begins by washing his hands, then he takes precedence to wash his right hand from the left body then he washed his anus. Then he graduated. Then he took water and put his fingers into the base of the hair. Then he poured three hands of water three times. Then he drained water over all his bodies. Then he washed his hands." The hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

So, in general, we can conclude that the hair must be washed after intercourse in Islam because there is a big hadas in every hair.

That's a brief explanation of "is it necessary to wash hair after intercourse in Islam?" and some important things about it. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!

I think that's enough for this article. Hope it is useful. Amen.

See you again in the next article!
